Hospital Accountant

Manchester | Private Hospital | Accounting | Finance | Full-time | Permanent | 37.5 hours per week | Competitive salary plus excellent benefits

The OrthTeam Centre (OTC) in Manchester has an exciting opportunity for a motivated, commercially minded, and experienced Hospital Accountant to join our Finance team on a full-time, permanent basis.

Located next to Spire Manchester Hospital, the OrthTeam Centre is a state-of-the-art outpatient and diagnostic facility. It is an exciting joint venture between OrthTeam Consultants and Spire Healthcare, bringing together specialist expertise and high-quality private healthcare services.

This is a varied and influential position where you will work closely with the Finance Director and senior stakeholders, providing high-quality financial information, commercial insight, and analysis to support the effective financial management of the hospital.

Working Hours: Monday to Friday, 9.00am to 5.00pm

Contract Type: Permanent, full-time, 37.5 hours per week

As Hospital Accountant, you will support the Finance Director with the effective financial management of the hospital. You will assist with the delivery of accurate financial and commercial information, provide meaningful analysis, and help maintain robust financial controls.

You will build strong working relationships with clinical teams, Heads of Departments, and non-finance managers, helping them to understand financial performance and make informed operational decisions.

Duties and Responsibilities

Your responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:

  • Preparing group reports, forecasts, key performance indicators, and supporting commentary
  • Supporting the development of the hospital’s annual business plan
  • Managing month-end preparation and closure activities
  • Ensuring the accurate capture of revenue and costs, including accruals and prepayments
  • Delivering financial reports within designated central reporting timelines
  • Developing and maintaining effective relationships with key stakeholders, particularly Heads of Departments
  • Providing clinical teams and non-finance managers with clear financial and commercial reporting
  • Supporting departmental managers to understand budgets, expenditure, and financial performance
  • Maintaining a detailed understanding of the hospital’s cost base and revenue streams
  • Helping to deliver a secure, accurate, and confidential payroll service, working closely with central teams
  • Ensuring robust financial controls are in place to protect the accuracy and integrity of financial reporting
  • Ensuring all reporting is completed in line with relevant regulatory and organizational requirements
  • Identifying opportunities to improve financial processes, controls, and commercial performance
  • Supporting and developing members of the Finance team

Who We Are Looking For

We are looking for an experienced finance professional who can combine strong technical knowledge with a practical and commercially focused approach.

You will ideally have:

  • An accounting qualification or be working towards a relevant qualification
  • Previous experience in a commercially and operationally focused finance role
  • Broad management accounting experience, including budgeting, forecasting, and month-end duties
  • The ability to complete month-end activities accurately and independently
  • Strong analytical skills and excellent attention to detail
  • The confidence to interpret financial information and clearly communicate findings to non-finance colleagues
  • Excellent stakeholder management and relationship-building skills
  • Leadership qualities, with experience of supporting, managing, or developing a team
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills, including pivot tables and lookup functions
  • Previous SAP experience, although this is desirable rather than essential
  • A proactive, organized, and solutions-focused approach
  • The ability to manage competing priorities and work effectively to deadlines
