Location: Great Western Hospital, Swindon, SN3 6BB
Salary: £25,272 per annum plus excellent benefits
Schedule: Permanent, Full-time, 37.5 hours per week, Monday to Friday, 10am to 6pm

As a Hospital Porter in our Healthcare team, you’ll support colleagues and patients by helping to keep the hospital running smoothly through safe, dignified and efficient patient and equipment movement. Your work will have a direct positive impact on patient experience and help create a safer, calmer environment for everyone on site.
Every day, you’ll contribute to a vital service that supports the running of Great Western Hospital. You’ll help ensure patients, equipment and essential items reach the right place at the right time, supporting clinical teams and helping the hospital deliver safe, high-quality care to its community.
What you’ll do as a Hospital Porter
- Transport patients safely and respectfully between wards, departments and clinical areas using wheelchairs, trolleys, beds or walking support when required.
- Move equipment and furniture across the site to support hospital operations, ensuring correct storage, cleanliness and safe use.
- Carry out non-patient portering tasks including transporting medical specimens, pharmaceutical products, blood products, medical gases and confidential medical records.
- Support waste management by safely moving and disposing of clinical, general, confidential, sharps and bulky waste in line with infection control procedures.
- Handle mail, goods and materials, ensuring secure and efficient distribution across the hospital.
- Follow all health, safety and infection-control procedures, reporting any faults, incidents or hazards promptly and accurately.

Does this sound like you?
- Empathy, a helpful and cooperative manner and the ability to support patients with dignity and care.
- Good interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to work well independently and as part of a team.
- Experience working in a manual-handling or customer-facing role.
- The physical ability to meet the demands of a busy hospital environment, including pushing, pulling and long periods of standing.

Vetting and checks:
An Enhanced DBS check is required for this role. This includes spent and unspent convictions, cautions, and any relevant information held by local police, in accordance with the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act and safeguarding requirements. You will also complete an Occupational Health Questionnaire to allow us to provide any support needed for you to succeed in the role.
