Job Title: Hostel Support Officer – Permanent
Hours
37 hours per week – Monday to Friday
Salary
£32,061.00 - £34,434.00
About the Role
Gosport Housing Services are looking for someone to join our generic team within the housing needs & advice section who can provide housing-related support to residents within the hostel, ensuring their safety, wellbeing, and progression towards independent living. The post holder helps residents access services, maintain their accommodation, and develop the skills needed to sustain future tenancies.
Key Responsibilities
- Experience of working in a busy homeless hostel environment
- Complete security and safety checks
- Respond to emergencies
- Adhere to fire safety and safeguarding
- Complete risk assessments and manage risk
- Support people with complex needs including: mental health, trauma, substance misuse, and challenging behavior
- Knowledge of homelessness, trauma, substance misuse, mental health, welfare benefits, and tenancy law
- Understanding of income collection and debt management
- Knowledge of Health and Social Care Act and its relevance to vulnerable adults
- Commitment to excellent customer service with a positive attitude to understand and resolve problems
- Strong numeracy and literacy for budgeting, report writing, and support planning
- Ability to work under pressure, prioritize effectively, and maintain accuracy
- Strong communicator with skills to motivate, influence, and build trust to affect a positive change in behavior
- Excellent interpersonal skills with an ability to actively listen and show empathy
- Ability to work effectively as part of a team in a frontline service environment
- Good IT literacy including Microsoft Office and case management systems
