Ealing Council is committed to ensuring that every resident has access to safe, secure, and suitable accommodation, particularly during times of housing crisis and uncertainty. Our Hostels Service is a key part of the Council’s response to homelessness, providing high-quality temporary accommodation and housing management services to individuals and families who require support while longer-term housing solutions are secured. We recognise that the quality of temporary accommodation can have a significant impact on a resident’s wellbeing, stability, and ability to move forward with confidence.
The service is responsible for the effective management of a diverse portfolio of hostel and temporary accommodation, ensuring properties are safe, compliant, well-maintained, and meet the needs of residents. We are committed to providing a person-centred service that promotes dignity, independence, and inclusion, whilst maintaining high standards of health and safety, safeguarding, and accommodation management. Through proactive engagement and collaborative working with residents, internal departments, support agencies, and external partners, we strive to create environments where residents feel supported and empowered to make positive changes in their lives.
As part of our ambition to deliver excellent housing services, we continuously seek to improve outcomes for residents by fostering strong communities, promoting tenancy sustainment, and reducing the impact of homelessness across the borough. The Hostels Service plays a critical role in supporting vulnerable households, addressing complex housing needs, and ensuring that temporary accommodation provides not only a place to stay but a foundation from which residents can rebuild their lives and work towards long-term housing stability.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.
