Description

V.Ships Leisure is looking for a Hotel Director for a luxury cruise vessel. The Hotel Director is the Head of the Hotel Department which includes Food and Beverage, Finance, Front Office, Human Resources, Guest Relations, Housekeeping, Cruise & Entertainment, and any Concessionaires (except medical services).

Key Responsibilities

• Adherence to the Company’s Health and Hygiene standards in line with the acceptable Public Health Sanitation Programs and EU SHIPSAN procedures.
• Ensuring a safe operation and working practice of the Hotel Department and any related matters affecting the safety of the ship, guests, and crew.
• Giving the Master prior to each departure a positive report that the vessel is ready for sea with regards to the responsibilities of the Hotel Department.
• Keeping the Master promptly and fully informed of any occurrence which might affect the navigation of the ship or the safety of persons onboard and/or the quality of services offered to guests.
• Liaise with other departments for the coordination of Hotel Department activities and to ensure a smooth operation.
• Ensuring welfare and discipline of all members of the Hotel Department, including any concessionaire staff under his/her authority.
• Reporting defects or malfunctions of safety equipment and appliances.
• Reporting to the Master the effective mustering of guests.
• Ensuring (via Housekeeping) that safety and emergency instructions are placed in all cabins.
• Organising the training for hotel personnel whose work involves hygiene procedures and ensuring adequate supervision.
• Appraising the Technical Department of the status of hotel equipment and any maintenance required with special regard for equipment affecting the safe and hygienic operation of the ship.
• Ensuring minimum Hotel Department manning to comply with the In-Port Manning plan in accordance with international maritime law.
• Participating fully in safety drills and statutory inspections commensurate to the role and as per Company policies and procedures.
• Ensuring departmental compliance with the Maritime Labour Convention directive on working hours.
• Leading and directing the team in applying correct security measures.
• Other safety responsibilities, as assigned, but not limited to the above.
• Environmental stewardship is central to this role and the entire operation of the ship. This role will engage in, comply with and promote all environmental regulations and policies, actively working with the Hotel Department and guests to promote sustainability and protection of the environment in all aspects of life on board.
• Assuming full responsibility for the efficient running of the entire Hotel Department and ensuring that hotel standards, revenue as well as controlling of all costs established by the Company are maintained.
• Ensuring that the overall Hotel Department product quality and service standards are met or exceeded by regularly developing, implementing, and participating in regular Hotel Department inspections.
• Coordinate with Charterer.
• Ensuring adequate resourcing of teams, completing appraisals, identifying development opportunities and supporting senior staff to guide, motivate and direct their respective teams.
• Managing of the following departments: Food & Beverage, Finance, Human Resources, Guest Relations, Housekeeping, Cruise & Entertainment Section XXX, Concessionaires (except Medical Services).
• Regularly monitoring the Hotel Department Key Performance Indicators by reviewing and analysing the indexes on an ongoing basis, discussing and evaluating findings with the team, and implementing responsive action when appropriate.
• Ensuring that all hotel department revenues and expenses are recorded as per Company policies and procedures.
• Overseeing the accounting procedures and record keeping on board, ensuring that all accounting matters comply with the accounting procedures determined by the Company.
• Regularly reviewing manning levels and the departmental organisational structure, developing innovative proposals that optimise the use of resources and decrease costs.
• Monitoring and controlling travel costs for the Hotel Department.
• Ensuring that Company property is always maintained properly and treated with respect.
• Forecasting budget requirements related to all aspects of operational costs within the hotel department for the upcoming financial year.
• Maintaining control of operational budgets and cost-control procedures without lowering product and service standards.
• Maintaining an effective communication flow between Hotel, Deck and Engine departments as well as within the Hotel Department.
• Willingly maintaining a highly visible profile by effectively interacting with guests and crew daily on a formal and informal basis.
• Promoting the Hotel Department values and goals by effectively communicating the corporate vision and expectations downwards.
• Encouraging upward communication and forwarding all comments and suggestions from officers, staff and crew to the Company.
• Acting as a dynamic motivator and onboard ambassador for the Hotel Department through management by example.
• Educating and training personnel, identifying the strengths and potential of officers, staff and crew.
• Monitoring performance of staff and making written evaluations of department heads.
• Organising a formal meeting every cruise with hotel department heads and minutes of meeting should be distributed according to Company policies and procedures.
• Reviewing daily guest feedback with department heads and, where applicable, agreeing appropriate outcomes to ensure effective complaint resolution.
• Organising monthly budget meetings in accordance with Company policies and procedures.
• Completing daily, weekly and end of cruise reports and documentation in accordance with Company policies and procedures.
• Conscientiously formulating and implementing short-and-long-term plans for improving guest service at all levels within Hotel Operations.
• Attending and socialising at guest cocktail parties and any other functions required including table hosting as scheduled.
