Reporting To: Corporate Catering Manager, Head Chef, and Senior Hotel Services Assistant
Salary: £12.94 per hour
About The Role
We are looking for a friendly, dedicated Catering Assistant to join our coffee shop team. In this role, you will play a key part in delivering exceptional customer service to our patients, visitors, and staff. You will work closely with the kitchen team to take and prepare food and beverage orders, ensure seamless service, and maintain high standards of cleanliness and hygiene.
Key Responsibilities
- Customer Service & Order Taking: Take food and drink orders for patients, visitors, and staff, and accurately communicate orders to the kitchen.
- Food & Beverage Preparation: Assist in preparing and serving sandwiches, salads, cold starters, beverages, and patient trays/trolleys according to standard procedures.
- Dietary Requirements: Ensure special dietary needs are accurately recorded and strictly followed.
- Sales & Till Operation: Process payments using POS systems following proper cash-handling procedures, keep accurate records, and provide receipts.
- Stock & Merchandising: Monitor, restock, and maintain predetermined stock levels across serveries, vending machines, and shop counters. Safely store incoming deliveries and maintain stock logs.
- Hygiene & Maintenance: Maintain a safe, hygienic, and tidy environment. Operate dishwashing equipment for crockery, cutlery, and glassware, keep cleaning supplies stocked, and report any faulty equipment promptly.
- Quality & Feedback: Help monitor customer satisfaction, handle initial queries or complaints professionally, and report outcomes to management.

What We Are Looking For
Must-Haves:
- Level 2 Food Safety certification
- Experience using a POS system to handle payments
- A polite, friendly, and caring attitude with high standards of personal presentation
- Ability to work effectively as part of a team while independently managing your time

Nice-to-Haves:
- Prior experience as a Waitress or Kitchen Porter
- Basic IT literacy
Compliance, Health & Safety
Infection Control & Safety:
- Adhere to national standards, departmental policies, and infection prevention controls (including uniform guidelines, PPE usage, and safe disposal practices) under the Health Act 2008.
Training:
- Attend required training sessions, including Food Hygiene and COSHH awareness.
Safeguarding & Confidentiality:
- Maintain strict confidentiality regarding patients and colleagues, and stay aware of safeguarding procedures for children and vulnerable adults.
