Hourly Paid Lecturer in Sewing and Dressmaking
The School of Community and Adult Learning at our Barnfield Campus is looking for an enthusiastic and flexible person to join our team as an Hourly Paid Lecturer to teach our ‘Sewing and Dressmaking’ courses.
About the Role
We are looking for a highly motivated individual with the necessary skills to run and maintain a sewing workshop along with teaching and supporting students with the creative making process. This will include the use of a range of materials, techniques, and processes, so an excellent knowledge of both traditional and contemporary skills and Health & Safety operating procedures is necessary for the role.
The successful candidate will have a good understanding of sewing and the passion to pass this knowledge on to our students of all ages.

Responsibilities
- Teach beginner students how to create a simple sewn item.
- Develop our students’ sewing techniques.
- Teach dressmaking and tailoring students how to make a garment from a commercial pattern.
- Advise students on correct materials and suitable fastenings.
Position Details
- This is a fixed term position initially starting in October 2026, based at our Luton Campus.
- The end date will be reviewed annually in line with course enrolments and demand for the courses from our local communities.
