Summary

Shiplake College is looking for an organised, empathetic, and resourceful House Pastoral Leader to join their pastoral team three days per week (Wednesday to Friday) during the term-time plus three INSET days per year.

Detail

This is an excellent opportunity for someone passionate about young people's wellbeing to make a real difference as a vital member of the Shiplake College community. Working in our dedicated Sixth Form Centre with Year 12 and Year 13 pupils, and led by the Housemaster/Housemistress, you will uphold the highest standards of care and support for our Sixth Form pupils as they navigate their studies and prepare for the next stage of their lives after Shiplake College.

The House Pastoral Leader position forms an integral part of the wider pastoral team within the House, led by the Housemaster/Housemistress and supported by the Deputy Housemaster/Housemistress, tutors, and domestic staff. You will need to be a strong team player who works collaboratively with colleagues and communicates effectively. You will be a good listener—reliable, warm, and approachable—with the sensitivity to use tact and diplomacy when required.

A flexible approach, a good sense of humour, and an even temper are essential, as is the ability to handle all situations in a co-operative and sensitive manner. Confidentiality and integrity are at the heart of everything we do.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
