Salary: £26,696 per annum, pro rata, plus company benefits – Agenda for Change
Schedule: Fixed Term - 6 months. Various Hours and Shifts Available

As a Housekeeper at Forth Valley Royal Hospital, you’ll play an important role in creating a clean, safe and welcoming environment for patients, visitors, and colleagues. You’ll provide housekeeping, cleaning, and catering services within your allocated area, while providing day-to-day direction and support to Domestic Assistants. Working closely with patients, clinical colleagues, and the wider facilities team, you’ll help maintain high standards of hygiene, service, and patient care. Your work has purpose, and the care and pride you bring to the role will make a positive impact every day.
What you’ll do as a Housekeeper
- Deliver housekeeping, cleaning, catering, and customer services to agreed standards across your allocated clinical areas and departments.
- Provide day-to-day direction and support to Domestic Assistants working within your area.
- Serve patient meals and beverages and ensure dining areas are cleared and cleaned afterwards.
- Keep kitchen and server areas, equipment, and dishwashers clean, tidy, and ready for use.
- Distribute clean linen to wards and safely move soiled linen and waste to the appropriate collection points.
- Complete cleaning tasks as required to maintain service delivery and hygiene standards.
- Follow agreed working methods and maintain accurate records where required.
- Order goods and materials through Team Leaders as needed.
- Report defects, maintenance issues, and hazards through the appropriate channels.
- Communicate effectively with patients, clinical colleagues, and the wider team.
- Support colleague appraisals where required.
- Follow Health and Safety, Control of Substances Hazardous to Health (COSHH), food hygiene, and other relevant policies and procedures.

You’ll be reliable, approachable, and comfortable taking responsibility for your own area while supporting and guiding others. You’ll have good communication skills, strong attention to detail, and a customer-focused approach. You’ll be able to use your initiative, organise your workload, and adapt when priorities change. This is a physically active role, so you’ll need to be comfortable being mobile for much of your working day and carrying out cleaning, catering, linen, and housekeeping tasks.
As this role involves working within a hospital environment, appointment is subject to obtaining satisfactory Protecting Vulnerable Groups (PVG) scheme membership as part of our pre-employment checks. You’ll also need:
- Good literacy and numeracy skills.
- An awareness of risk assessments and safe working practices.
- A flexible approach to working times and methods.
- British Institute of Cleaning Science (BICSc) Operator Proficiency Certificate Level 1 (OPC L1), or relevant training as required for the role.
- Basic Food Hygiene Certification, or relevant training as required for the role.
- Health and Safety awareness.
Role-specific training will include site orientation, corporate induction, customer care, and fire safety.
