Housekeeping Assistant - Birmingham
Salary: £24,853
Location: Birmingham
Full Time 37.5 hours per week
We are St Andrew’s — a mental health charity with a clear purpose: to inspire hope for people living with complex mental health needs. Our Birmingham site is on an ambitious improvement journey.
As we continue to evolve, we’re looking for Housekeeping Assistants who are passionate about delivery of high standards of cleanliness across the hospital.
St Andrew's Birmingham is a 125 bedded adult mental healthcare facility comprises of eight units that cover medium and low security for both Men and Women. Located in Stirchley, a vibrant area in South Birmingham, easily accessible by road networks and public transport.

This role is essential in maintaining a clean, safe and welcoming environment for patients, staff and visitors.
Working in a healthcare setting requires attention to detail, respect for confidentiality and an understanding of the importance of hygiene in supporting patient wellbeing but also clear communication, professionalism when interacting with others.
Key Responsibilities:
- Carry out cleaning duties across wards, offices, communal areas, and clinical spaces
- Ensure all areas are cleaned to high standards in line with infection control procedures
- Safely use cleaning equipment and chemicals as instructed
- Dispose of waste appropriately including clinical waste required
- Replenish supplies such as soap, paper towels and sanitiser
- Work respectfully around patients, being mindful of their privacy and needs

Requirements:
- Previous cleaning experience (healthcare experience desirable but not essential)
- Good understanding of hygiene and cleanliness standards
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team as well as communicate clearly and effectively
- BICSc NVQ in Cleaning and Hospitality and Food Hygiene level 1 qualifications would be desirable but not essential as full training will be given
