About Us
Code Hostel, a vibrant and innovative accommodation establishment situated in the heart of Edinburgh, is seeking a dynamic and motivated individual to join our team as an Housekeeping Manager. Our hostel is known for its unique blend of modern amenities, friendly atmosphere, and budget-friendly accommodations, making it a preferred choice for travelers from all walks of life.
Responsibilities
As the Housekeeping Team Lead, you will work closely with the Housekeeping Supervisor to ensure the smooth functioning of daily operations at Code Hostel - The Court & The Loft. This role will be hands on cleaning as well as managing. You will work covering the Housekeeping Supervisors 2 days off. On other days of the week you will work varying shifts depending on the hostels business needs. This may include front of house assistance and working at The Loft across Housekeeping and Reception type tasks.
Your responsibilities will include:

Assistance in Leadership of Housekeeping Team
- Assist leading the daily operations of the housekeeping department, ensuring all areas of the hostel (guest rooms, public areas, back of house) are maintained to high standards of cleanliness and hygiene.
- Work with the team during core housekeeping times to ensure targets and standards are met and lead by example. Improving housekeeping ways of working to drive efficiencies.
- Assign tasks to housekeeping staff, manage schedules, and ensure adequate coverage.
- Conduct regular team meetings and provide training for staff on cleaning techniques, safety protocols, and customer service.
- Communicate with front of house on early check-ins, no shows, late checkouts and other operational necessities.
- Manage weekly, fortnightly, monthly & quarterly deep cleans.

Quality Control & Inspection
- Perform routine inspections of guest rooms, common areas, and other facilities to ensure they meet the hostel’s cleanliness standards.
- Address any issues or deficiencies and take immediate corrective action.
- Establish and update cleaning standards and procedures to align with the hostel’s quality expectations.

Inventory Management
- Monitor and manage the inventory of cleaning supplies, linen, and guest room amenities, ensuring adequate stock levels at all times.
- Record & log all lost & found accurately.

Compliance with Health & Safety Standards
- Ensure compliance with all hostel policies, health and safety regulations, and legal requirements related to cleanliness, hygiene, and sanitation.
- Implement proper safety procedures for handling hazardous materials and train staff in safe cleaning practices.
- Conduct periodic safety training and drills to ensure team readiness in case of emergencies.
- Conduct Daily Fire Checks.

Guest Satisfaction & Complaint Resolution
- Address guest concerns or complaints regarding cleanliness and housekeeping services promptly and professionally.
- Collaborate with the front desk and other departments to ensure smooth communication and service delivery that enhances guest satisfaction.
- Proactively gather feedback to improve the quality of housekeeping services.

Training & Development
- Encourage skill development, cross-training, and opportunities for career growth within the department.
- Foster a positive and motivated work environment.

Collaboration with Other Departments
- Work closely with the front office and food & beverage teams to ensure coordinated efforts in providing guests with a seamless experience.
- Supporting during breakfast as required.
- Working closely with Maintenance to ensure repairs are logged and dealt with in a timely manner.

Administration
- Linen and chemical stock counts performed accurately.
- Ensure Logit Compliance.

Front of House
- Welcoming and looking after our guests.
- Checking guests in and out.
- Upselling Food & Beverage including making coffees on our Barista Coffee Machine.
- Bar work, Beer, Whisky & Gin Sales.
- Kitchen Assistance - working in the kitchen.
- Food Runner - Assisting with Food Service.
- Events - Running events for guests.
- Resolving any guest comments fully.
- Processing card payments.
- Selling tours and products to make sure our guests have as amazing a time as possible.
- Responding to requests, phone calls, emails and reviews in a friendly manner.
- Accurately filling in all reporting necessary i.e lost property, Logit tasks.
Requirements
- Previous experience in the hospitality industry, with a focus on guest services.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and handle multiple tasks simultaneously.
- Familiarity with hospitality software and booking systems.
- Enthusiastic about creating a positive and welcoming atmosphere for guests.
