The Milner York is York’s only railway hotel, a four-star, Grade II listed landmark situated right next to York Railway Station. With a rich history, over 150 bedrooms and a reputation for welcoming guests to the heart of York, we’re proud to offer a hotel with real character.

Behind every great guest experience is a dedicated team, and our Housekeeping team plays a vital role in ensuring our bedrooms and public areas are clean, comfortable and welcoming. We’re looking for a Housekeeping Supervisor who will lead by example, support our colleagues and help us maintain the high standards our guests expect.

A DAY IN THE LIFE OF A HOUSEKEEPING SUPERVISOR AT THE MILNER YORK

What You’ll Be Doing…

  • Leading by example: Support and motivate the Housekeeping team, creating a positive working environment where colleagues feel supported and take pride in their work.
  • Maintaining high standards: Carry out bedroom and public-area inspections, ensuring cleanliness, presentation and guest-ready standards are consistently achieved.
  • Supporting daily operations: Help coordinate room cleaning schedules and workloads to ensure rooms are ready on time and operational priorities are met.
  • Coaching and developing colleagues: Train, guide and support team members, providing constructive feedback and helping colleagues build their skills and confidence.
  • Working with other departments: Communicate closely with Front Office, Maintenance and other teams to manage room status, report defects and resolve issues quickly.
  • Managing supplies and equipment: Help monitor housekeeping stock, linen, cleaning products and equipment, ensuring resources are used effectively.
  • Following procedures: Ensure the team follows health and safety requirements, safe chemical handling, cleaning procedures and hotel standards.
  • Responding to guest needs: Help resolve housekeeping-related requests and concerns promptly and professionally, always keeping the guest experience at the heart of what you do.
  • Supporting the Head Housekeeper: Assist with the smooth running of the department, helping maintain productivity, consistency and high standards across the hotel.
  • Being hands-on: Be ready to support the team on the floor whenever needed. This is a practical, visible leadership role where your presence makes a difference.

WHAT WE NEED FROM YOU

We’re looking for someone who is passionate about housekeeping and understands that the smallest details can make the biggest difference.

You’ll Bring

  • Previous housekeeping experience, ideally within a hotel environment, with experience supervising or supporting a team.
  • A keen eye for detail and a commitment to exceptional cleanliness and presentation standards.
  • Strong leadership skills, with the ability to motivate colleagues, lead by example and support a positive team culture.
  • Good organisational skills and the ability to prioritise tasks in a busy hotel environment.
  • Clear communication skills and the confidence to work with colleagues across different departments.
  • A proactive, can-do attitude and the flexibility to adapt to changing operational needs.
  • A practical approach to problem-solving and the confidence to address standards or performance concerns professionally.
  • An understanding of health and safety and the importance of following safe working practices.
  • A genuine passion for hospitality and making every guest feel welcome.
