Housing Adaptations Officer (Temporary post to cover maternity leave)
Help residents live safely, independently and with dignity in their own homes.
Grade 5 - £28,598 to £31,022 per annum
East Staffordshire Borough Council is looking for a customer-focused and proactive Housing Adaptations Officer to join our Environmental Health Team on a temporary basis to cover maternity leave. This is an important role supporting residents who need adaptations to their homes through Disabled Facilities Grants, helping them to improve access, independence, safety and wellbeing.
You will provide a high-quality, customer-centred adaptations service for homeowners, housing association tenants, private tenants and licensees. Working closely with Occupational Therapists, contractors, Building Control, Planning, housing providers and other partners, you will help ensure that adaptations are necessary, appropriate, reasonable and practicable, while delivering value for money and excellent outcomes for residents.
About The Role
In this role, you will manage Disabled Facilities Grant enquiries and applications from initial contact through to completion. You will provide advice and support to applicants, translate Occupational Therapy recommendations into suitable schemes of work, monitor the progress of cases, assess eligibility and financial contributions where required, and ensure accurate records are maintained throughout. You will also contribute to the wider Environmental Health service by supporting service planning, performance monitoring, partnership working, safeguarding awareness and other relevant duties that help protect and improve the health, safety and wellbeing of residents across the Borough.

What We Are Looking For
We are looking for someone with experience in a customer-focused environment, ideally with experience of working with vulnerable clients, including disabled people, older people and families with children. You will need strong communication skills, good organisation and prioritisation, the ability to manage cases effectively, and a commitment to delivering clear, consistent advice and excellent customer service. Knowledge of Microsoft Office, and an understanding of applicable law, practice and good guidance relating to Disabled Facilities Grants. You will also need a current valid driving licence and use of a car, as well as flexibility to work outside normal office hours when required. Experience of giving specialist or technical advice, translating Occupational Therapy recommendations into schemes of work, safeguarding training, and the ability to research and collate information would be advantageous.
