Housing Advice Officer
An exciting opportunity has arisen for two Housing Advice Officers to join our dedicated and busy Housing & Inclusion Team to act as caseworkers for applicants, providing advice and assistance on the range of options available to resolve their housing problems. We are looking for someone with a sound knowledge of Part 7 of the Housing Act 1996 (as amended) and the ability to make decisions within the realm of the legislation. You also should have experience of supporting vulnerable people with complex needs including domestic abuse issues. You will have a robust understanding of the causes of homelessness, the challenges faced by those at risk, and the interventions available to help prevent and relieve homelessness.
You would be based at our Community Hub, Trinity, in Maidstone Town Centre for a minimum of three days a week. The Housing & Inclusion team provides a compassionate and supportive response to service users who are at risk of homelessness or rough sleeping by providing a face-to-face housing advice service to those who need it.
As a Housing Advice Officer, you will manage your own case load, work with clients to assess their housing needs and provide exceptional advice and support. You will need the ability to demonstrate skills of empathy in assessing the clients housing circumstances and support needs, to devise personalised housing plans and to provide a broad range of housing options, with the aim of assisting clients to retain their current accommodation, or secure alternative suitable accommodation.
These roles are offered on a full-time basis, working 37 hours per week from Trinity House on permanent contracts. There is also the scope for agile working under the Council’s agile working arrangements, dependant on the needs of the service.
You may be required to participate in the out of hours on-call rota covering evenings, weekends and bank holidays to provide emergency assistance on housing matters.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
