We are seeking a professional and well-motivated individual to join the People and Communities directorate as a Housing & Homelessness Officer specialising in the provision of support and advice to households experiencing domestic abuse.
You must demonstrate an understanding of working with customers experiencing Domestic Abuse including the immediate and long term needs of the customer. You will have an understanding of risk management and the barriers associated with customers remaining in their homes or moving to alternative accommodation.
You must have strong ICT skills, excellent communication skills, and be able to independently manage a caseload of homelessness prevention and relief cases and prioritise a busy workload. You will need to be resilient, self-motivated, positive to change, prepared to share knowledge and skills and have a flexible, can-do attitude. You must have an understanding of the range of needs of households experiencing homelessness and you will be required to demonstrate an ability to handle varying data and queries, remain calm and professional even when the pressure of workload is high.

For this particular vacancy experience in the following areas would be preferred:
- Understanding of current homeless legislation, security of tenure and landlord and tenant rights and responsibilities
- Ability to deliver comprehensive housing advice to customers, with a focus on homelessness prevention
- Ability to offer customer centred support to threatened/ homeless households experiencing domestic abuse to enable positive outcomes
- Ability to work collaboratively and build positive relationships with partner organisations
You will be required to act as the single point of contact for the customer applying technical expertise to resolve homelessness issues efficiently and effectively. You will be required to work collaboratively with a wide range of statutory and non-statutory services ensuring Council standards, protocols and processes are adhered to at all times. You will have the ability to recognise complex cases and liaise with the appropriate Specialist/Manager for guidance and advice to ensure accuracy of data and advice.
