An established and growing specialist litigation firm is looking to appoint experienced Housing Disrepair Solicitors to join its expanding team in Manchester.
The Role:
The successful candidate will manage a caseload of pre- and post-litigated housing disrepair claims, primarily involving claims under Sections 9A and 11 of the Landlord and Tenant Act 1985. You will have responsibility for your own matters from inception through to conclusion, including litigation, negotiation, and settlement.
Key Responsibilities:
- Managing a caseload of pre- and post-litigation housing disrepair claims
- Conducting claims in accordance with the Pre-Action Protocol for Housing Conditions Claims
- Drafting Letters of Claim
- Reviewing housing records and assessing liability
- Reviewing claimant and defendant surveyor reports
- Calculating and collating special damages
- Negotiating settlements
- Conducting and attending mediations where appropriate
- Liaising with Counsel
- Issuing court proceedings and progressing matters through litigation
- Maintaining accurate records and ensuring internal processes are followed
- Communicating effectively with clients throughout the lifecycle of their claims
- Building positive working relationships across the wider business

The Ideal Candidate:
- Previous Housing Disrepair experience, or significant contentious civil litigation experience
- Experience managing your own litigated caseload
- Ability to work at Grade B level or above
- Experience using Proclaim or another high-volume case management system
- Strong knowledge of relevant housing and civil litigation legislation
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Strong organisational skills and attention to detail
- The ability to work at pace and manage competing priorities
- A proactive and self-motivated approach
- Good IT skills
