We are a dynamic local authority providing essential services to the people of Gloucester.

Our main office, based in the Eastgate Centre on Eastgate Street in the heart of the city, is an accessible, modern and light space designed for collaborative working and finding new ways to work. It's all open plan, with a living green wall and other plants without set desks, so you can sit next to someone new every day. We're always looking to improve how we work and we offer flexible and agile working to give our people a great work life balance.

The council is committed to supporting on-going development through coaching, mentoring, as well as formal training and professional development.

About the role:

Do you want to join a busy organisation and multifaceted housing services team dedicated to helping those in housing need.

This is an exciting opportunity for someone who has experience of working in the housing sector, especially with the knowledge of homelessness. You will provide a comprehensive homelessness advice and prevention service, helping vulnerable households understand their housing options and access suitable accommodation. You will assess housing applications, determine statutory homelessness duties and work closely with partners to help households secure sustainable housing solutions.

You will be the first point of contact for our customers and provide the initial advice and guidance on a range of housing related matters, provide a housing options service focusing on prevention for those presenting as homeless or threatened with homelessness, fulfilling the councils housing and immigration obligations; including where the council does not owe a full homeless duty, or where referrals to supported housing may be appropriate. Support those in time of crisis arranging safe placements into emergency accommodation or negotiate with landlords to help prevent homelessness.

We are currently operating a hybrid model of office and remote working.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
