Job Description
As a Housing Officer, you will manage tenancies across a defined Cambridge neighbourhood. You will help residents sustain their tenancies, resolve problems and make their neighbourhoods safer and better places to live.
You will:
- Take ownership of a varied caseload, including tenancy disputes, complaints, tenancy audits and anti-social behaviour. You will work with residents to resolve issues and take enforcement or legal action where appropriate.
- Identify safeguarding concerns and work with colleagues and partner agencies to support residents and manage risk.
- Build relationships with residents and Residents’ Groups, and help deliver projects that improve neighbourhoods.
- Manage and develop an Assistant Housing Officer, providing day-to-day support, supervision and clear direction.
You will have:
- Experience of delivering customer-focused services and achieving results in tenancy management or a similar enforcement or community development role.
- The ability to manage a busy workload, take ownership of complex cases and make sound decisions.
You will communicate clearly and sensitively, build trust with residents and colleagues, and work confidently with partner organisations. You will also have experience of first-line management or coaching others, and be able to support someone’s development and address performance concerns.
You will need a good standard of education and confidence using common IT applications, including Microsoft 365. A relevant housing qualification and experience working within housing is desirable.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
