Job Description:

Senior HPC Technology Consultant

Location: UK (Customer Site Based)

Are you an experienced HPC and Linux specialist looking to work on some of the UK's most advanced computing environments?

We are seeking a Senior HPC Technology Consultant to join our HPC Services team, to provide System Administration support to a prestigious customer operating large-scale High Performance Computing infrastructure.

This is an opportunity to play a key role in maintaining and optimising mission-critical systems that enable complex research, engineering, and data-intensive workloads.

Working within a dedicated team of technical experts, you will deliver both proactive and reactive support across advanced HPC platforms, helping to ensure maximum system availability and performance while meeting demanding service level agreements.

What You'll Be Doing

As a Senior HPC Technology Consultant, you will:

  • Work as part of a dedicated team to support advanced HPC hardware and software technologies.
  • Perform preventative maintenance activities and respond to critical incidents.
  • Manage and document maintenance activities through case management systems.
  • Ensure compliance with customer change management processes and controls.
  • Build strong working relationships with customers and stakeholders.
  • Follow technical escalation procedures to ensure rapid resolution of high-priority issues.
  • Participate in a 24x7 on-call rota as part of the support team.
  • Work alongside colleagues across EMEA to support wider customer requirements when needed.

  • A degree in Computer Science or a related discipline, or equivalent experience.
  • At least 5 years' experience working with HPC and Linux systems.
  • Strong Linux system administration skills.
  • Understanding of Linux kernel features, including memory management.
  • Experience performing hardware diagnostics, maintenance, and repairs.
  • Strong scripting capabilities using Python, Bash, or similar technologies.
  • Knowledge of configuration management tools such as Ansible.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving abilities.
  • Self-motivation and a willingness to take the initiative to learn from colleagues.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to work effectively under pressure in a customer-facing environment.

Desirable Experience

Experience in one or more of the following areas would be advantageous:

  • Cluster management platforms such as Bright Cluster Manager, HPE Performance Cluster Manager (HPCM) or Cray Systems Manager (CSM).
  • SLURM or PBS Pro job schedulers.
  • High-performance networking technologies such as InfiniBand or Slingshot.
  • Parallel file systems including Lustre or GPFS.
  • Kubernetes environments.
  • Linux security, patching and vulnerability management.
