Sewell Wallis HR Administrator Opportunity

Sewell Wallis is looking for an HR Administrator to join a professional services business, based on-site just outside York.

Role Overview

Responsibilities
Employee Relations: Provide administrative support for employee relations matters, including disciplinary, grievance and performance cases, arranging meetings, preparing documentation, taking accurate notes and maintaining confidential records.
Recruitment: Support the end-to-end recruitment process, including preparing job adverts, screening applications, coordinating interviews, communicating with candidates and supporting hiring managers.
Onboarding & Offboarding: Coordinate new starter processes, including contracts, right-to-work checks, DBS checks where required, inductions and probation reviews, as well as supporting leavers and internal employee changes.
HR Administration: Maintain accurate employee records and HR systems, including holiday, sickness, absence, contract and employee information, ensuring records are updated accurately and within required deadlines.
Employee Support: Act as a first point of contact for routine HR queries, providing support to employees and managers regarding HR processes, policies, pay, benefits and employment documentation.
Training & Compliance: Coordinate training and e-learning activities, support performance and absence management, maintain HR policies and job descriptions, and assist with health and safety and compliance activities.
Payroll & Benefits: Support payroll, benefits, salary reviews and employee changes by providing accurate information, preparing documentation and liaising with relevant internal teams.
Reporting & Data Protection: Prepare HR reports and metrics, maintain effective filing and document retention systems, and ensure HR processes and records comply with data protection, confidentiality and internal policies.

Skills Required

  • Strong administrative and organisational skills, with excellent attention to detail.
  • Good working knowledge of Microsoft Office (especially Outlook, Word, Excel).
  • Ability to handle confidential information with discretion and professionalism.
  • Confident communication skills, both written and verbal, with a helpful and approachable manner.
  • Experience working in a human resources or business administration environment.
  • Basic understanding of UK employment legislation and HR policies.
  • Experience supporting or coordinating meetings, particularly those involving employee relations.
  • Studying toward or holding a CIPD Level 3 qualification (or interest in pursuing it).
  • Live locally to the office, near York, with your own transport.

Benefits

  • £28,000 - £30,000 starting salary
  • 20 days annual leave plus 8 statutory bank holidays (pro rata in the first year and if part-time), rising to 30 days (after time served), with the addition of Christmas shutdown and your birthday off!
