Alexander Steele Recruitment are working in partnership with an established and growing food business to recruit an HR Advisor to join their People team.
Reporting into the HR Manager, this is a varied, hands-on HR role supporting managers and employees across the business. You will provide day-to-day advice across the full employee lifecycle while helping to create an engaging, inclusive and high-performing working environment.
The role would suit an experienced HR/People professional who enjoys working closely with operational teams, coaching managers and taking ownership of employee relations and wider people initiatives.
About the role
As HR Advisor, you will be a key point of contact for managers across the business, providing practical and commercially focused HR support. You will work closely with leadership teams to ensure people processes are applied consistently, while supporting engagement, development, wellbeing and continuous improvement across the organisation.
Key responsibilities will include:
- Providing managers with guidance and support across a broad range of HR and people-related matters
- Taking an active role in employee relations cases, supporting managers through investigations, absence management, performance concerns and other matters
- Coaching and developing managers to build confidence in managing their teams and handling people issues effectively
- Supporting colleague engagement initiatives including recognition programmes, employee surveys, listening forums and internal events
- Helping to deliver performance and development initiatives, encouraging meaningful conversations around individual development and career progression
- Supporting organisational change, consultations and restructuring activity, including the preparation of relevant documentation
- Championing wellbeing, Diversity, Equity & Inclusion initiatives and helping to create a positive and supportive workplace culture
- Maintaining accurate HR records, employee information and reporting to ensure people data remains reliable and up to date
- Managing Right to Work processes and ensuring appropriate checks and records are maintained in line with legal requirements
- Working with recruitment and employment agency partners
- Partnering with colleagues across the wider group to support effective and consistent HR processes
- Working alongside the Health & Safety team to help maintain a safe and compliant working environment
- Identifying opportunities to improve HR processes and introduce more effective and efficient ways of working

About you
We are looking for someone who has already gained practical experience within a People Advisor, HR Advisor or similar generalist HR position.
Ideally, you will have:

- Around 1/2 year experience working within an HR Advisor level role
- Good practical knowledge of UK employment law and experience applying HR policies and procedures
- Strong communication skills
- A genuine interest in employee engagement, wellbeing and creating a positive colleague experience
- A collaborative and approachable working style, with the ability to handle confidential and sensitive matters professionally
- Strong organisational and prioritisation skills, with the ability to manage a varied workload
- Good working knowledge of Microsoft Excel, Word and PowerPoint
- CIPD Level 3 would be advantageous, although relevant hands on HR experience is equally important
