HR Advisor

Location: Burnley
Salary: £35,447 per annum
Contract Type: 9-month temporary contract – Maternity cover

Are you an experienced HR professional with a passion for employee relations? We're looking for a confident and knowledgeable HR Advisor to join The Calico Group on a maternity cover basis, helping us deliver exceptional people support across our diverse group of businesses.

Group Business Services provide a range of essential support services across The Calico Group, helping our businesses to deliver the best possible outcomes for customers. From HR and payroll to finance, Media and communication’s, digital, governance and business support, GBS plays a key role in ensuring our services run efficiently and effectively every day.

HR also work as part of a wider Group Business Service Team supporting our businesses to make a real difference to people’s lives.

The opportunity

As an HR Advisor, you will play a key role in delivering high-quality HR support across The Calico Group. Working closely with HR Business Partners and colleagues across the People function, you’ll provide clear, practical advice to managers and take the lead on a varied range of Employee Relations matters.

This is a busy and varied role where priorities can shift quickly, so you’ll need to be organised, resilient and confident in managing competing demands while maintaining sound judgement and attention to detail.

What you will be doing

  • Building effective relationships with managers and colleagues across the Group, helping to create a positive colleague experience and support effective people practices.
  • Providing practical, legally compliant HR advice that supports fair and consistent decision-making.
  • Managing a varied Employee Relations caseload, including disciplinary, grievance, absence, performance and organisational change matters.
  • Working with HR Business Partners on strategic projects and organisational priorities.
  • Analysing trends and identifying opportunities to improve people practices.
  • Contributing to change programmes and helping managers understand and respond to people impacts.
  • Ensuring employment legislation, policy and regulatory requirements are followed.

What We’re Looking For

We believe in recruiting for potential as well as experience. Our ideal candidate will have:

  • Significant Employee Relations experience, including disciplinary, grievance, absence management, capability and organisational change cases.
  • CIPD Level 5 qualification or equivalent professional experience.
  • Sound knowledge of UK employment law and HR best practice.
  • Experience managing a high-volume and complex case workload.
  • Strong communication and relationship-building skills, with the ability to influence at all levels.
  • Ability to work independently, prioritise effectively and manage competing deadlines.
  • A proactive and solutions-focused approach.
  • Strong digital and IT skills, including Microsoft Office applications.
  • Professional credibility, resilience and sound judgement.
  • Full UK driving licence and access to a vehicle are essential, as the role requires regular travel across services in Lancashire and Greater Manchester.
