Role Summary – Help businesses build better workplaces
At Norton Loxley, we believe great HR is about far more than policies and procedures. It's about helping ambitious businesses grow by putting their people first.
We're a modern, commercially focused HR consultancy supporting SMEs across Yorkshire and the UK. Our clients see us as an extension of their leadership team, providing practical, expert advice that helps them navigate people challenges with confidence.
As our business continues to grow, we're looking for an experienced People Advisor who enjoys building trusted client relationships, solving people challenges and making a genuine difference to businesses.
If you love variety, enjoy working with business owners, and want to combine operational HR with HR project support, we'd love to hear from you.
This is a varied role which is client-facing and will include an element of client account management.
Here’s what’s in it for you…
- We fully embrace hybrid working with a mix of office and home working each week, as well as flexible start/finish times.
- Generous holiday allocation
- Work in a collaborative, friendly and supportive team environment
- Take ownership of your own work
- Be part of our growth journey and progress with us
Whilst this vacancy is advertised as full-time, we are open to considering alternative flexible working patterns.
What you'll be doing
You'll manage your own portfolio of SME clients, acting as their trusted HR partner and providing commercially focused advice across the full employee lifecycle.
No two days are the same. One day you might be supporting a Managing Director through a disciplinary or performance management case, and the next you'll be delivering management training or helping a growing business prepare for its next phase of growth.
Your role will include:
- Building trusted relationships with a portfolio of clients and becoming their go-to HR expert.
- Providing practical, commercially focused HR advice across a wide range of employee relations matters, including disciplinary, grievance, capability, absence management, redundancy and restructuring.
- Supporting HR and people projects to help our clients’ business plans, as required.
- Supporting our clients through HR processes (such as disciplinary, grievances, performance management, termination of employment etc.) as needed.
- Producing contracts, handbooks, policies and other HR documentation.
- Delivering engaging manager training, both in person and online.
- Identifying opportunities to improve our clients' businesses from a people perspective while managing risk appropriately.
- Holding and running quarterly/ 6 monthly meetings onsite with clients independently and setting the agenda for these meetings, ensuring you have all the relevant information to hand.
- HR and people administration.
- Setting up HR systems for clients.
- Ensuring people data is entered and maintained correctly.
- Occasionally taking detailed client briefs and accompanying the Director’s to onsite client and new business meetings.
- Supporting with recruitment projects on behalf of our clients, including taking detailed client briefs, creating engaging job adverts, advertising on relevant job boards and social media, proactive candidate searching, conducting thorough screening, presenting a shortlist and providing weekly reports to the client on recruitment project progress.
- General business support as required, for example, support with updating and enhancing our internal processes to support the needs of the business and our clients.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
