About the Role
As HR Advisor, you will support school leaders and colleagues with day-to-day people matters, helping to ensure that HR processes are followed fairly, consistently and in line with Trust policies, employment law and best practice.
You will provide support across the employee lifecycle, including recruitment, onboarding, probation, contract changes, absence management, employee relations casework, payroll administration, personnel records and offboarding. You will also play an important role in supporting safeguarding, safer recruitment and statutory compliance requirements across the Trust.
Key Responsibilities
- Providing timely, accurate and practical advice to school leaders on a range of people matters, including absence management, performance and capability, conduct and disciplinary matters, probation processes, grievances, flexible working and family-friendly rights.
- Supporting employee relations casework, including probation, absence management, performance and disciplinary matters, ensuring processes are followed fairly, consistently and in line with Trust policies, employment law and best practice.
- Preparing clear and professional documentation, including letters, reports and notes for formal meetings and hearings.
- Supporting internal employment investigations, including disciplinary, grievance and other formal processes, and assisting with the preparation of clear investigation reports and related documentation.
- Maintaining accurate and confidential HR records in line with Trust policies, data protection requirements and audit standards.
- Carrying out regular housekeeping of HR files for compliance and archiving purposes.
- Preparing contracts and contract variation letters as required.
- Liaising with payroll regarding contract changes, special leave arrangements and other employment-related updates.
- Supporting recruitment activity, including drafting adverts, arranging interviews, administering new starter processes and supporting onboarding.
- Updating relevant HR, payroll and school information systems accurately and in a timely manner.
- Monitoring probationary periods and supporting Headteachers and senior leaders with review processes and outcome letters.
- Supporting offboarding processes, including leaver administration and exit data collection.
- Supporting recruitment compliance across the Trust, including safer recruitment requirements and maintenance of recruitment systems and documentation.
- Supporting the consistent application of Trust people policies across schools.
- Ensuring duties are undertaken in a way that supports safeguarding, safer recruitment and the Trust’s statutory responsibilities as an employer.
- Handling personal and sensitive information lawfully, securely and confidentially in line with GDPR, Trust policies and statutory obligations.

The Ideal Candidate
- A CIPD Level 3 qualification, or a similar HR qualification.
- Experience of working in an HR function, ideally within a large organisation or education setting.
- A good understanding of HR processes and employment law.
- Experience of using HR or management information systems, preferably within an education or similar environment.
- Excellent IT skills, including confident use of spreadsheets and HR systems.
- Strong organisational skills, with the ability to prioritise workloads and work to changing deadlines.
- The ability to work on your own initiative while contributing positively to a wider team.
- Excellent communication skills, with the ability to deal calmly, professionally and effectively with colleagues at all levels.
- A high level of accuracy and attention to detail.
- A professional, confidential and sensitive approach to handling information.
