Job Description
Purpose of the Role
As an HR Adviser supporting one of our newly acquired Operations & Maintenance contracts, you’ll play a key role in delivering a responsive, people-focused HR service to approximately 300 employees across 20 locations throughout the UK.
Reporting to the Senior HR Business Partner, you’ll work closely with managers and stakeholders across the contract, providing practical HR advice, coaching and support across the full employee lifecycle. This is a varied, hands-on role where you’ll have the opportunity to make a real difference to both our people and the wider operation.
The role is based in our Manchester City Centre offices.
Role & Responsibilities
- Support the full employee lifecycle, from generating offer letters and contracts and completing pre-employment checks through to onboarding and offboarding.
- Provide high-quality, practical HR advice and guidance to managers, helping them navigate and resolve difficult, complex or sensitive employee relations matters effectively and at an early stage.
- Coach and support managers on the application and interpretation of HR policies and procedures, ensuring decisions are consistent, accurate and aligned with current and proposed employment legislation and local arrangements.
- Support the management of complex employee relations cases, including disciplinary, grievance and sickness absence matters. This will include advising managers on policy, procedure and legislation, as well as supporting formal investigations and hearings.
- Develop strong and trusted relationships with line managers and key stakeholders, taking the time to understand their needs and providing proactive, solutions-focused HR support.
- Prepare monthly payroll submissions for the contract and work closely with the Payroll Team to ensure an accurate and efficient payroll process, alongside associated reward and benefits activity.
- Support visa processes for both new and existing employees, ensuring requirements and processes are managed effectively.
- Support managers in the effective management of sickness absence, including assisting employees with their return to work and working collaboratively with managers to reduce absence levels across the organisation.
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date HR records and reporting, providing timely HR information for Board reports, attrition and sickness absence reporting, and quarterly Group Meeting presentations.
- Take on other reasonable duties appropriate to the level of the role, contributing to the evolving needs and priorities of the organisation.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
