Are you an experienced HR professional who thrives on providing practical, commercially focused employee relations advice while also supporting recruitment and talent attraction?
We're looking for an HR Advisor - Employee Relations & Recruitment on a fixed term, part time basis, (1 year fixed, 30 hours per week), to join our friendly and busy HR team. This is an exciting opportunity to play a key role in supporting managers across a diverse veterinary organisation, managing complex employee relations matters, and helping to attract and retain exceptional people.
This role offers a varied workload, significant autonomy, and the opportunity to work on a range of interesting people projects while contributing to the delivery of our people strategy.
About the Role
Reporting to the HR Director, you will provide expert advice and guidance across a broad range of employee relations matters, ensuring managers are supported to make fair, consistent and legally compliant decisions.
Alongside employee relations casework, you will support recruitment activity across the business, ensuring compliance with employment legislation and equality, diversity and inclusion (EDI) principles.
Key Responsibilities
Employee Relations
- Provide expert advice and coaching to managers on disciplinary, grievance, absence, capability, performance and probation matters.
- Manage complex employee relations cases from start to finish.
- Conduct and support workplace investigations.
- Liaise with ACAS and external legal advisers where required.
- Support managers in managing sensitive people issues, including reasonable adjustments and disability-related matters.
- Identify and mitigate employee relations risks while promoting fair and consistent decision-making.
- Draft formal correspondence, outcome letters and other HR documentation.

Recruitment
- Advise managers on recruitment best practice and legally compliant recruitment processes.
- Partner with managers on workforce planning and recruitment activities.
- Ensure recruitment processes align with employment legislation, right to work requirements and EDI principles.
Wider HR Support
- Contribute to HR projects and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Review and develop HR policies, procedures and guidance.
- Deliver training and coaching to managers and employees.
- Work collaboratively with the wider HR team to support the delivery of business objectives.
About You
We're looking for someone who is confident, pragmatic and approachable, with strong employee relations experience and a passion for providing excellent HR support.
You'll have:
- Significant experience managing complex employee relations cases.
- Strong knowledge of UK employment law and HR best practice.
- Experience conducting workplace investigations.
- Excellent stakeholder management and relationship-building skills.
- The confidence to influence and challenge managers constructively.
- Strong written communication skills and attention to detail.
- The ability to manage a varied and demanding workload.
- Experience advising on reasonable adjustments and Occupational Health recommendations.
- CIPD Level 5 qualification (or equivalent experience).
Desirable:
- Experience working with ACAS and external legal advisers.
- Previous experience supporting recruitment and talent acquisition activities.
