Our HR Advice team helps small businesses handle difficult people issues with confidence and build better places to work. We’re looking for an experienced HR Advisor to give customers practical, thoughtful advice and help us keep improving the service.

What is a “HR Advisor II”?
You’ll manage your own portfolio of customers, building lasting relationships with founders and people leaders. You’ll guide them through complex employee relations matters, coach them through sensitive decisions and support projects that improve how their teams work.
You’ll bring strong knowledge of UK employment law and the judgement to apply it to the realities of a small business.
In This Role You Will
As our HR Advisor, you’ll be responsible for:
- Manage a portfolio of customers and deliver an excellent experience throughout their journey with Charlie
- Advise independently on complex matters, including redundancies, restructures, performance, conduct and sickness absence
- Chair disciplinary, grievance and redundancy meetings, including at customer sites when needed
- Coach founders and managers through sensitive people issues and deliver training on people management
- Work with customers on projects such as progression frameworks, benefit reviews and management training
- Draft and review high-quality handbooks, policies and employment contracts
- Help customers develop progressive, practical policies and support them with EDI reviews
- Keep up to date with UK employment law and relevant case law, and explain what changes mean for small businesses
- Draft and negotiate settlement agreements, working with customers, employees and external solicitors
- Coordinate external support, including Occupational Health referrals
- Identify opportunities to offer customers additional support through Charlie’s services
- Manage a busy caseload across multiple customers and projects while maintaining the quality of your advice
- Develop and deliver customer training, share ideas to improve the service and mentor junior team members

Requirements
You must have:
- Substantial experience advising independently on complex UK employee relations matters
- In-depth knowledge of UK employment law and the ability to research case law where needed
- Experience drafting or reviewing employment contracts, policies and handbooks
- Confidence building relationships with founders and senior stakeholders
- Experience coaching managers and delivering training clearly and confidently
- Strong writing and communication skills, with the ability to make complex advice practical and easy to understand
- The ability to manage a high caseload, competing deadlines and several customer relationships at once
- An interest in using AI tools to work efficiently without compromising the quality of your advice
- A desire to learn, share ideas and help build a service we’re proud of
Let us know if you have: (all of these are desirable, but none are required)
- A CIPD Level 5 qualification or above
- Experience advising small businesses across a range of sectors
- Experience working in a HR consultancy
- Experience mentoring or upskilling other advisors

We cannot offer visa sponsorship and you must be able to work in the UK.
This is an initial six-month fixed-term contract, with the possibility of becoming permanent.

Compensation Package
A benchmarked salary from £35,500 - £39,500 based on your level within our progression framework
