Role Description

The HR Advisor is a full-time, on-site role based in Cheltenham, responsible for providing practical and advisory support across the employee lifecycle. Day-to-day tasks include:

  • Advising managers on HR policies and procedures
  • Supporting recruitment and onboarding
  • Coordinating performance management processes

The HR Advisor will handle employee relations matters, including investigations, informal and formal meetings, and documentation, ensuring consistent and fair application of policies. The role involves:

  • Maintaining up-to-date HR records
  • Preparing reports
  • Supporting compliance with labor and employment law requirements

The HR Advisor will also contribute to HR projects, staff training, and continuous improvement of HR practices, working closely with leadership and colleagues to foster a positive, inclusive workplace culture.

Qualifications

  • Demonstrated skills in Human Resources (HR) and HR Management, with experience supporting day-to-day HR operations.
  • Strong knowledge of HR Policies, with the ability to interpret, apply, and communicate policies clearly to managers and employees.
  • Working understanding of Labor and Employment Law, including practical experience supporting compliance and advising on employee issues.
  • Experience in Employee Relations, including handling queries, resolving concerns, and supporting fair and transparent processes.
  • Relevant HR qualification (e.g., CIPD or equivalent) or significant experience in a similar advisory HR role.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and conflict-resolution skills, with the ability to build trust and influence at all levels.
  • Strong organizational and administrative skills, with attention to detail and competence in HR information systems and Microsoft Office.
  • Ability to work on-site in Cheltenham, maintain confidentiality, and demonstrate alignment with YMCA Cheltenham’s values and inclusive ethos.
