HR Advisor - School Environment (Part-Time, On-Site)

Location: Senior School site, Hampstead
Working Hours: Part-time, 3 days per week, on-site, 9am-5pm
Salary: £24,000-£27,000 (FTE £40,000-£45,000)

A long‑established independent school is seeking an HR Advisor to support its Senior HR team across a broad range of HR activities. The school is known for its strong academic results, inclusive culture, and extensive co‑curricular offering. The HR Advisor will play a key role in supporting staff across the organisation, ensuring effective recruitment, compliance, wellbeing initiatives and day‑to‑day HR operations.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide effective support to the Senior HR Advisor and Director of HR & Compliance across all HR functions.
  • Oversee recruitment processes, ensuring the school utilises modern technologies and achieves value for money.
  • Line manage and support the HR Administrator, advising on recruitment best practice and participating in interview panels.
  • Ensure recruitment and selection materials are produced to a high standard.
  • Provide day‑to‑day HR advice and coaching to managers, including handling complex casework such as grievances and disciplinaries.
  • Support the development of measurable staff wellbeing strategies.
  • Contribute to HR project work as directed by senior leadership.
  • Build strong working relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Maintain a safe working environment, ensuring compliance with legislation and risk assessments.
  • Undertake additional duties as required, including deputising for the Senior HR Advisor when necessary.

Person Specification

Experience

  • Full recruitment lifecycle experience from advertising to appointment.
  • Confident using HR information systems and analysing HR data.
  • Skilled in managing sensitive conversations and resolving complex employment issues.
  • Experience supporting organisational change.
  • Strong background in handling complex casework and working with staff at all levels.
  • Experience working in a school HR environment (desirable).

Skills & Attributes

  • Able to engage with a wide range of people and adapt communication style accordingly.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Capable of working collaboratively within a small team while also making independent decisions.
  • Excellent organisational skills with the ability to prioritise competing workloads.

Knowledge

  • Solid understanding of employment law and contracts.
  • Up‑to‑date knowledge of HR policies and practices within education (desirable).
  • Awareness of Health & Safety legislation.
  • CIPD qualification (part or full).

Salary & Benefits

The role offers £24,000-£27,000 (FTE £40,000-£45,000), 8 weeks of leave including bank holidays and school closure periods, a contributory pension scheme, free lunch, and access to a subsidised on‑site gym.

The school is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children. The successful candidate will be required to complete an Enhanced DBS check and additional pre‑employment vetting.
