HR Advisor – 12-Month Contract

Location: Porton Down, Salisbury – 3 days per week on site

Contract: 12 months

IR35: Inside IR35

Rate: £373/day Umbrella

Clearance: Active SC Clearance


We are currently seeking an experienced HR Advisor to join a high-profile public-sector organisation based at Porton Down, Salisbury, on an initial 12-month contract.

This is an excellent opportunity for an HR professional with strong employee relations, HR advisory and stakeholder management experience to provide first and second-line HR support across the organisation.

The Role

As an HR Advisor, you will provide practical and professional HR advice to employees, line managers and senior stakeholders across a broad range of people-related matters.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Providing first and second-line HR advice and guidance.
  • Supporting managers and employees with HR policies, procedures, leave, payroll and benefits queries.
  • Advising on disciplinary, grievance and employee relations matters.
  • Acting as an escalation point for complex HR issues and helping to resolve them effectively.
  • Maintaining accurate HR records and employee documentation.
  • Using HR information systems to manage employee records and HR processes.
  • Preparing HR reports, management information and metrics.
  • Supporting recruitment, including job descriptions, interview coordination and onboarding.
  • Supporting Learning & Development processes and employee engagement initiatives.
  • Working with stakeholders on organisational change and wider HR projects.
  • Ensuring HR activity complies with employment legislation, data protection and organisational policies.
  • Identifying opportunities to improve HR processes and service delivery.

About You

We are looking for someone with:

  • Strong experience providing 1st and 2nd line HR support.
  • Proven employee relations experience, particularly disciplinaries and grievances.
  • Good knowledge of UK employment law, HR policies and compliance.
  • Experience working with HR information systems.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
  • Strong organisational skills and attention to detail.
  • Experience supporting recruitment and onboarding.
  • The ability to handle confidential and sensitive information professionally.
  • A proactive approach to problem solving and continuous improvement.

Experience within a Civil Service or wider public-sector HR environment would be highly desirable, as would CIPD membership/qualification or equivalent HR experience.

Mandatory Requirements

Due to the nature of the role, candidates must:

  • Hold active SC Security Clearance.
  • Be a sole UK national.
  • Be able to work 3 days per week on site at Porton Down, Salisbury.
  • Be available for the full 12-month contract.
  • Be willing to work Inside IR35.

There is no flexibility on site attendance, rate or clearance.
