We are seeking an organised and motivated individual to join our HR team at the Institute of Metabolic Science, as a Human Resources Apprentice!
The IMS is dedicated to improving the health of people in the UK and around the world by the understanding of obesity, type 2 diabetes, and related metabolic disorders. Through high-quality basic science, clinical, and translational research, IMS investigates the complex interplay between genetic, developmental, and environmental factors throughout life, with aim of developing interventions to prevent and treat these conditions.
This role is perfect for someone looking to gain valuable experience in HR while receiving comprehensive training and support. With our dedicated team, you'll have the chance to develop your skills, learn from experienced professionals, and make a real impact within our HR team.
About The Role
As a Human Resources Apprentice, you'll provide professional administrative support across HR functions, gaining insights into the full HR lifecycle. You'll be involved in:
- Recruitment and induction
- Payroll and contract changes
- Reward and recognition
- Employee relations
- Training and development
- Employee well-being and engagement

The apprenticeship is fixed term for 24 months (typical duration of the programme). The role includes completing the Level 3 HR Apprenticeship qualification using the skills and knowledge that you will have built up to complete your projects and assignments. You will have the opportunity to be accredited by the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development (CIPD), which is the industry standard 'first step' for HR professionals in the UK.
Essential Skills
- Minimum of 5 GCSEs Grade C (4+) or above, including English and Maths
- Interest in Human Resources and commitment to completing the Level 3 HR apprenticeship qualification
- Knowledge of Microsoft Office tools (Word, Excel and Outlook)
- Customer service skills
- Communication and interpersonal skills
- Good organisational skills
- Flexibility and proactivity in handling changing priorities
- Ability to manage your time and meet deadlines
- Ability to maintain confidentiality
- Attention to detail and problem-solving skills
- Ability to work effectively independently and as part of a team
