HR Assistant
Sheffield Children’s Hospital Charity
Location: Sheffield – Hybrid
Reporting to: HR Business Partner
Salary: up to £27,811 Per annum, pro-rata (£16,323.85 actual)
Hours and basis: Part Time - 22.5 hours per week (ideally working Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursdays – open to discussion) / Fixed Term Contract – 12 months
Sheffield Children’s Hospital Charity is looking for an organised, proactive and people-focused HR Assistant to join our team. This is an exciting opportunity to support the delivery of high-quality HR services across the Charity, helping to enhance the employee experience while ensuring our HR systems, processes and records are efficient, compliant and fit for future growth.
About the role
As HR Assistant, you will provide comprehensive administrative and operational support to the HR Business Partner across all aspects of the employee lifecycle. You will play a key role in ensuring HR processes run smoothly, supporting recruitment and onboarding, maintaining accurate employee records, assisting with payroll administration, and helping to develop and improve HR systems, policies and procedures.
Working closely with colleagues across the Charity, you will contribute to a positive employee experience by supporting learning and development activities, employee wellbeing initiatives and engagement programmes. You will also help strengthen HR governance through accurate data management, process documentation and continuous improvement projects.
Key responsibilities
- Provide administrative support across the full employee lifecycle, including recruitment, onboarding, contractual changes, absence management and offboarding.
- Prepare contracts, employment letters and other HR documentation accurately and efficiently.
- Act as the first point of contact for routine HR administration enquiries.
- Maintain accurate employee records and documentation in line with GDPR and organisational requirements.
- Support payroll administration and ensure employee data is accurate and submitted within required deadlines.
- Maintain and improve data quality within the HR and payroll system, carrying out regular audits to ensure compliance and accuracy.
- Support the development and implementation of HR policies, procedures, standard operating procedures and manager resources.
- Assist with HR projects, system improvements and initiatives that enhance HR service delivery across the Charity.
- Support learning and development administration, training compliance monitoring and record keeping.
- Assist with employee wellbeing, engagement activities, events and communications, including participation in the Charity Wellbeing Committee.

About you
We're looking for a highly organised individual who enjoys delivering excellent customer service and supporting colleagues. You will be passionate about creating a positive employee experience and have strong administrative, communication and data management skills.
You will bring:
- Experience in an administration or people-focused support role, ideally within a HR or Payroll background.
- Strong organisational skills and the ability to manage multiple priorities effectively.
- Excellent attention to detail and a high level of accuracy when working with data and documentation.
- Experience maintaining records, databases or HR systems and handling confidential information.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Good working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications, particularly Word and Outlook.
- An understanding of employee lifecycle processes, HR compliance and GDPR requirements.
- Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to build positive relationships at all levels.
- A proactive, adaptable and solutions-focused approach to work.
