Sewell Wallis are working with a well-regarded organisation who are now looking for an HR Assistant to join their HR team in York, North Yorkshire. This is a varied role where you'll have the opportunity to get involved across the full employee lifecycle and play an important part in delivering a professional HR service.
About the Role
The role will see you working closely with the Head of HR, to provide day-to-day administrative support across recruitment, onboarding, employee relations, training, payroll and benefits, HR records and compliance.
You'll be a key point of contact for employees and managers, so being approachable, professional and comfortable dealing with confidential and sometimes sensitive situations is really important.
This would suit someone with strong HR experience who is looking for a role where they can broaden their knowledge, take on responsibility and develop their HR career.
Your Responsibilities Will Include
- Supporting employee relations processes, including disciplinary, grievance and capability procedures.
- Supporting managers with HR documentation, templates and general guidance.
- Helping with the end-to-end recruitment process, including drafting adverts, posting vacancies, screening applications and arranging interviews.
- Preparing new starter documentation, including offer letters, contracts and right to work checks.
- Coordinating inductions and probation reviews, keeping managers updated on progress and preparing confirmation or variation letters.
- Keeping employee records accurate and up to date across HR systems, including holiday, sickness and absence information and processing starters, leavers and contract changes in a timely manner.
- Responding to routine HR queries from employees and managers via email, telephone and internal systems.
- Coordinating internal training and e-learning, including booking venues, liaising with trainers and monitoring attendance.
- Supporting performance management and absence monitoring processes.

You'll also have the opportunity to suggest improvements to HR processes and help the team make sure employees and managers receive a consistent, efficient and helpful service.
What We're Looking For
You'll Ideally Have
- Around 4 years HR experience.
- Excellent organisational skills and a good eye for detail.
- The ability to manage multiple tasks and competing deadlines without losing track of the detail.
- Good working knowledge of Microsoft Office, particularly Word, Outlook and Excel.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- A professional, approachable and helpful manner.
- The ability to handle confidential and sensitive information with absolute discretion.
- Confidence communicating with employees, managers and external contacts.
- A proactive attitude and willingness to get stuck in.
- Good problem-solving skills and the confidence to ask questions when you're unsure.
- At least 2 GCSEs (or equivalent) at Grade A*-C / 9-4, including English and Maths.
- If you're studying towards, or already hold, CIPD Level 3 that would be beneficial
