This is a senior, strategic partnering role within a safety-critical, unionised environment, working closely with Driver functional leaders to shape workforce planning, industrial relations and organisational development across depots nationally. Full client details will be shared with shortlisted candidates.

Purpose of the Role

To act as the senior strategic HR partner for the Driver function, providing expert people leadership across Driver depots, Driver management teams, and Driver capability operations. The role ensures the delivery of safe, reliable and high-performing Driver operations through proactive workforce planning, robust industrial relations and strategic organisational development.

Key Responsibilities

  • Build strong, influential relationships with Driver functional leaders to understand operational priorities, safety requirements and workforce challenges.
  • Lead the development and delivery of people plans aligned to Driver operations, including route competence, training pipelines, fatigue management and resource resilience.
  • Provide senior HR insight into Driver performance reviews, depot management boards and operational readiness forums.
  • Oversee strategic workforce planning for the Driver function, including headcount modelling, training throughput, succession planning and competency-based deployment.
  • Lead HR support for major Driver-related change programmes (e.g. timetable reform, new traction introduction, productivity initiatives).
  • Collaborate closely with resourcing, rostering, Driver Resource Managers and operational control to ensure Driver availability and compliance.
  • Provide effective line management to the HR Partner and Talent Acquisition Partner for Drivers.
  • Develop and maintain strong industrial relations with recognised trade unions, leading high-level negotiations, dispute resolution and consultation.
  • Ensure consistent application of HR policy and procedure across all Driver locations and management teams.

  • Lead engagement initiatives tailored to Drivers, reflecting operational constraints and frontline working patterns.

  • Oversee HR support for organisational design across the Driver function, including depot structures and management frameworks.
  • Promote and embed a safety-first culture through Driver-specific initiatives and safety dialogue with Driver leaders.
  • Maintain high standards of workforce data accuracy, reporting and analytics to support operational decision-making.
  • Support internal and external audits, regulatory compliance and safety assessments relevant to Driver operations.

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
