We have a fantastic opportunity for an experienced and commercially minded HR Business Partner to join our Senior Leadership Team.

This role will be remote with national travel and ideally based in the Midlands/North.

Role Overview

The HR Business Partner will act as a trusted adviser and coach to leaders, helping to develop management capability, strengthen leadership effectiveness and embed a culture of accountability, performance and continuous improvement. The role combines strategic business partnering with practical operational support, ensuring that people initiatives align with organisational objectives and contribute to improved business performance.

As a key member of the Regional Leadership Team, you will influence decision-making, shape workforce strategies and lead the implementation of people initiatives that support growth, colleague engagement, service excellence and organisational effectiveness.

Role Responsibilities

  • Partner with Regional Directors and leadership teams to develop and deliver regional people plans that support operational, commercial and organisational objectives.
  • Provide strategic HR advice on business planning, organisational development, workforce transformation and growth.
  • Ensure people considerations are embedded in regional decision-making and operational planning.
  • Use workforce data, trends and insight to identify organisational risks, opportunities and targeted interventions.
  • Lead and support organisational change, restructures, acquisitions, contract mobilisations and TUPE transfers.
  • Coach, mentor and constructively challenge leaders to improve their confidence and effectiveness in managing people.
  • Build capability in performance management, attendance, wellbeing, employee relations, talent development and colleague engagement.
  • Identify leadership capability gaps and implement practical, measurable development solutions.
  • Design and facilitate leadership workshops, management training and development interventions.
  • Promote a culture in which managers take ownership and accountability for leading, developing and engaging their teams.
  • Provide expert guidance on complex employee relations matters, ensuring compliance with employment legislation, organisational policy and good practice.
  • Work collaboratively with specialist People colleagues to mitigate legal, employee relations, financial and reputational risk.
  • Lead and support workforce planning, succession planning and talent management activity across the region.
  • Drive colleague engagement activity and ensure feedback is translated into clear and meaningful action.
  • Help embed a positive, inclusive and high-performance culture aligned with EMED values and behaviours.
  • Build credible and productive relationships with operational leaders, senior stakeholders, employee representatives and trade unions.
  • Influence decisions at senior level through clear advice, professional expertise and constructive challenge.
  • Represent the People Function at Regional Leadership Team meetings and operational forums.
  • Support client presentations, bids, contract mobilisations and business development activity where appropriate.

  • Travel regularly throughout the designated region to support operational locations and management teams.
  • Spend time in operational environments to understand local challenges and identify effective people solutions.
  • Attend regional and national meetings, leadership events, workshops and project activity. Undertake occasional overnight stays where business needs require.

Success in the role will be assessed through agreed objectives and measures, including:

  • Delivery and impact of regional people plans.

Do you have what it takes?

  • CIPD Level 5 qualification or above, or equivalent professional experience.
  • Significant experience operating as an HR Business Partner within a complex, multi-site organisation.
  • A proven record of strategic business partnering with senior operational leaders.
  • Strong coaching and leadership development experience, with evidence of building management capability.
  • Extensive knowledge of UK employment law and employee relations practice.
  • Experience of leading and supporting organisational change and transformation.
  • Demonstrable commercial awareness and the ability to connect people priorities with business outcomes.
  • Experience of working in a unionised environment.
  • Excellent communication, influencing and stakeholder management skills.
  • The ability to interpret people data and turn insight into practical, targeted action.

Desirable

  • Chartered CIPD membership.
  • Experience within healthcare, emergency services, logistics, transport or another operationally intensive sector.
  • Experience supporting large, geographically dispersed workforces.
  • Experience of TUPE transfers, bids and contract mobilisation activity.
