Help a small learning-disability charity strengthen its HR, policies, staff training and compliance systems

We’re looking for an experienced professional who can review documents, improve processes and help us build a stronger back-office function.

What difference will you make?

As a small charity with only three paid members of staff, our time is heavily focused on delivering the service and supporting the adults who attend Areterra. This means that important back-office work such as policy reviews, staff documentation, training records and compliance systems can take a significant amount of management time.

An experienced volunteer in this role would help us build stronger, more efficient systems that are easier to maintain and give us greater confidence that our documentation and processes remain up to date.

Their support would also free up management time to focus more directly on developing activities, improving the site and supporting the people who attend Areterra.

The impact would be long term. Rather than completing a single task, the volunteer would help create templates, processes and systems that the charity can continue using in the future.

Ultimately, stronger HR, compliance and administrative systems help us operate more professionally and sustainably, which supports the quality and consistency of the service we provide to adults with learning disabilities.

What are we looking for?

We are looking for someone with at least three years’ professional experience in HR, operations, compliance, governance or a related field.

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

Only hits

No noise. No "maybe this fits." Just roles with a clear explanation of why they're right — and where to focus when applying.

The most important qualities are strong organisation, attention to detail and the ability to review existing processes and turn them into practical, easy-to-maintain systems.

Our ideal volunteer will have experience in some of the following areas:

  • Reviewing and writing workplace policies and procedures
  • HR administration and employment documentation
  • Staff induction, onboarding and training records
  • Creating training matrices or compliance trackers
  • Document control and policy review schedules
  • GDPR, confidentiality and record-keeping
  • Charity governance or operational compliance
  • Improving administrative systems and templates

We are a small charity, so we are looking for someone who is comfortable being practical and hands-on rather than only giving high-level advice.

The volunteer should be confident working independently, able to explain recommendations clearly and understand the importance of proportionate systems that are realistic for a small organisation to maintain.

Experience within the charity, health and social care, education, disability or community sector would be particularly useful, but is not essential.

We would also value someone who is patient, approachable and interested in using their professional skills to strengthen a small charity supporting adults with learning disabilities.

As we have grown, the operational and compliance side of the charity has also become more demanding. We are looking for an experienced HR, operations or compliance professional who can help us strengthen our internal systems and documentation.

The volunteer would work alongside our Operations Director and help with practical tasks such as:

  • Reviewing and updating HR and organisational policies
  • Helping improve staff contracts, templates and employment documentation
  • Reviewing staff induction and onboarding processes
  • Creating or improving staff training records and training matrices
  • Helping us organise policy review dates and compliance deadlines
  • Reviewing internal procedures and identifying gaps or areas for improvement
  • Helping develop clearer administrative systems and document templates
  • Supporting GDPR, record-keeping and general governance processes
  • Helping ensure staff files and compliance records are structured and easy to maintain

We are not looking for someone to line-manage staff or take responsibility for day-to-day service delivery. The role is about using professional experience to help us build better systems and documentation behind the scenes.

This would suit someone with at least three years’ professional experience in HR, operations, compliance, governance or a related field. Experience in the charity, health and social care, or disability sector would be helpful but is not essential.

The role can be carried out remotely.
