HR Consultant with Training Expertise

At Lanes HR, we provide practical, commercially focused HR support with a very human approach. We are looking for an experienced HR Consultant who also has a strong interest and background in Learning & Development.

You will be CIPD Level 5 qualified or above, with solid generalist HR experience and a good working knowledge of UK employment law. You will support clients across a wide range of HR matters, including employee relations, disciplinary and grievance, absence, performance, capability, redundancy, restructuring, TUPE, investigations, and general day-to-day HR advice.

You will also play an important part in developing and delivering our training offer. We want someone who is confident in front of a room, can make learning practical and engaging, and can turn technical HR topics into something managers can easily understand and use. Training may include employment law, difficult conversations, performance management, leadership, absence management, equality and inclusion, psychological safety, and other people-management topics.

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

Only hits

No noise. No "maybe this fits." Just roles with a clear explanation of why they're right — and where to focus when applying.

You will work closely with a broad range of clients, so strong relationship-building skills are essential. You should be comfortable advising business owners, managers, and senior leaders, and confident enough to challenge constructively when needed.

Professional judgement and integrity are extremely important to us. We expect you to know when you are confident in your advice and, equally, when to stop and ask for a second opinion. If you are ever unsure, you must seek support rather than guess. We would far rather you ask a question than give a client inaccurate or incomplete advice.

The role will also involve drafting and reviewing HR documentation, including contracts, policies, handbooks, letters, and investigation reports, so clear written communication and attention to detail are important.

We are looking for someone who is professional, organised, commercially aware, and able to manage a varied workload independently, while still enjoying being part of a small and friendly team.

Consultancy experience would be helpful, as would any additional L&D, coaching, or training qualifications, but the right personality and practical approach are equally important.

And one thing is genuinely essential:

A good sense of humour.

We take our work seriously, but not ourselves. We want someone warm, approachable, and down to earth who can deal with difficult HR situations professionally, deliver great training, and still have a laugh with the team along the way.

Knowledge. Value. Results.

That is what we stand for, and we are looking for someone who can bring all three.
