We have an exciting opportunity for an experienced and proactive HR Coordinator to join our established HR team within the Department of Engineering. As the team continues to evolve, this role offers the opportunity to contribute to the delivery of a high-quality HR service within one of the largest departments in the University, while helping to enhance and improve our people processes and ways of working.
The Department of Engineering is the largest within the University of Cambridge (approximately 800 staff) and operates across a diverse range of Academic and Professional Services divisions. The role holder will play an important part in supporting the delivery of a professional, responsive and efficient HR service within a complex and fast-paced environment. We are seeking an organised and customer-focused HR professional who can build positive working relationships, provide accurate advice and guidance, and ensure HR processes are delivered effectively and compliantly.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
