About The Role

The HR Manager at Hays Business Support will be a key member of the Operations team, reporting directly to the Operations Director and working closely with the Head of People. This role is designed for a proactive and commercially minded HR professional who enjoys a hands-on generalist role and is passionate about employee engagement, wellbeing, and retention. The successful candidate will serve as the primary point of contact for day-to-day HR matters, providing expert guidance and support to both managers and employees across the full employee lifecycle. This position offers an excellent opportunity to influence HR practices, contribute to strategic initiatives, and foster a positive organizational culture in a collaborative environment.

Qualifications

  • CIPD Level 7 qualification or equivalent.
  • Previous experience in a generalist HR Manager or Senior HR Advisor role.
  • Strong knowledge of UK employment law and HR best practices.
  • Experience managing employee relations cases and providing HR advice to managers.
  • Proven track record in onboarding, offboarding, performance management, absence management, and policy development.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities effectively.
  • Proficiency in HR systems, Microsoft 365, and SharePoint.
  • A professional, approachable, and confidential manner when handling sensitive matters.
  • Experience within professional services, legal, financial services, accountancy, or similar office-based environments is advantageous.

Responsibilities

  • Manage employee relations issues, including absence management, performance concerns, conduct, wellbeing, and flexible working requests.
  • Support the entire employee lifecycle, from onboarding and probation management to offboarding and exit processes.
  • Provide guidance to managers and employees on HR policies, procedures, and employment legislation.
  • Maintain accurate, confidential employee records and HR documentation within HR systems.
  • Assist in recruitment activities, including interview coordination and onboarding administration for new hires.
  • Generate HR reports and management information to support decision-making.
  • Monitor absence trends and facilitate effective return-to-work procedures.
  • Contribute to HR projects, employee engagement initiatives, and wellbeing programs aimed at enhancing the employee experience.
  • Review and implement improvements to employee benefits, reward, and recognition schemes to promote retention and motivation.
