HR Manager
We are seeking an experienced HR Manager to join our professional services client's HR team in Cardiff. This is a broad and hands-on HR leadership role, working closely with the Human Resources Director and providing day-to-day leadership of the HR function.
The successful candidate will take responsibility for the effective operational delivery of HR across the business, leading a team and acting as a trusted adviser to managers and leaders across the organisation.
This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced HR generalist who enjoys working across the full employee lifecycle, managing complex employee relations matters and contributing to wider people initiatives, projects and organisational change.
Key Responsibilities
As HR Manager, you will:
- Lead and manage the HR team, ensuring an efficient, responsive and high-quality HR service is delivered across the organisation.
- Manage complex employee relations matters, including disciplinaries, grievances, absence, flexible working, disputes and redundancies.
- Provide trusted HR advice and guidance to Team Leaders and line managers on employment matters, terms and conditions and best practice.
- Coach and support managers through organisational and people-related change.
- Develop, review and implement HR policies and procedures to support business performance and minimise employee relations risk.
- Work closely with the Learning & Development team to ensure HR and L&D activity is aligned.
- Provide advice on employee benefits and support the HRD with reward-related initiatives.
- Oversee payroll administration, working closely with external providers and Finance to ensure accurate and timely payroll delivery.
- Support recruitment and selection strategies, working closely with the Recruitment Assistant on senior and graduate recruitment.
- Support and deliver new starter inductions where required.
- Produce HR management information and statistical reports, including overseeing the monthly Executive Board HR report.
- Review and approve HR correspondence before it is issued.
- Lead the management of absence across the organisation, ensuring appropriate policies, processes, triggers and interventions are consistently applied.
- Coordinate TUPE transfers, including consultation and associated employee processes.
- Support talent management and succession planning activity.
- Allocate and prioritise work across the HR team, ensuring workloads, deadlines and service standards are effectively managed.
- Support the HRD with change management, organisational projects and wider people initiatives.
- Continuously review HR processes and identify opportunities to improve the employee and manager experience.
- Provide proactive support to the HRD on firm-wide projects and other people-related initiatives.

About You
We are looking for an experienced HR professional with a strong generalist background and the confidence to operate at both an operational and advisory level.
You will ideally have:
- CIPD Level 5 or equivalent qualification – essential.
- CIPD Level 7 qualification or a willingness to work towards this – desirable.
- Strong knowledge of UK employment legislation and its practical application.
- Proven HR generalist experience, ideally gained over 3–5 years in a broad HR role.
- Experience managing complex employee relations cases.
- Experience supporting managers and employees through organisational change.
- Previous experience within a professional services environment would be advantageous.
- Strong leadership and people-management capability.
- Excellent communication, influencing and relationship-building skills.
- Strong organisational skills and the ability to prioritise effectively in a busy environment.
- Excellent attention to detail and accuracy.
- Strong IT and HR systems skills.
- A proactive, solutions-focused approach with the ability to work independently.
- The confidence to make sound, commercially aware decisions and provide pragmatic HR advice.
- The ability to handle sensitive and confidential information with discretion, diplomacy and professionalism.
