HR Manager – Swindon
Location: Swindon
Sector: Manufacturing
Are you an experienced HR Manager or senior HR generalist who enjoys being close to the business and delivering practical, commercially focused HR support?
We’re recruiting for a hands-on HR Manager to join a busy manufacturing operation in Swindon.
This is a predominantly operational role where you’ll work closely with managers and employees across the site, taking ownership of day-to-day HR delivery while helping to improve how HR operates.
You’ll need to be comfortable being visible and accessible across the business – including spending time with operational teams on the shop floor – rather than operating purely from an HR office.
The Role
As HR Manager, you’ll be responsible for a broad range of operational HR activities, including:
- Leading day-to-day HR activity across the site
- Providing pragmatic and timely HR advice to managers and employees
- Managing Employee Relations cases end-to-end, including absence, conduct, capability, and grievance
- Providing balanced, commercially aware, and risk-conscious HR advice
- Coaching managers to handle people matters confidently and consistently
- Designing and delivering practical manager training
- Leading the site's performance management process
- Supporting talent, succession, and capability discussions
- Supporting pay review, bonus, and other local reward processes
- Simplifying and improving HR processes
- Using HR data and KPIs to identify trends and drive action
- Improving the use of HR systems and technology, including HRIS, Power BI, and AI tools
- Representing HR within the wider leadership team
- Potentially managing and developing members of the HR team

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
