HR MANAGER UK & IRELAND

London | Permanent | Local UK Contract

Ethic Search Partners, a human resources consulting firm specialising in executive search, is partnering with Longchamp to recruit an HR Manager UK & Ireland as part of a replacement. Longchamp is a world-renowned French family-owned luxury Maison, with more than 70 years of heritage, craftsmanship and innovation. The Maison offers a stimulating international environment where strong heritage and modernity come together.

THE POSITION

The UK & Ireland organisation is entering an important phase of HR development and transformation, requiring a hands-on, autonomous and pragmatic HR professional with the ability to build and strengthen HR practices.

Reporting directly to the General Manager UK & Ireland, you will be responsible for all HR matters across a perimeter of approximately 160 employees, covering around 20 retail locations and a local head office. You will act as the main HR point of contact for managers and employees, with a strong field presence and a highly operational role combining HR business partnering, employee relations and people development. You will work closely with the Retail Director and the Group HR team in Paris, ensuring alignment between local business needs and Group HR policies and practices.

The position is structured around three key dimensions:

  • Operational HR management and employee relations
  • HR business partnering and people development
  • HR structuring and transformation

Regular field presence is required, with store visits typically one to two days per week. Occasional travel to Paris will also be required.

  • Act as the primary HR contact for managers and employees on all HR matters.
  • Manage the employee lifecycle, including onboarding, contracts, probation, employee relations, disciplinary procedures, mobility and exits.
  • Provide expert advice on UK employment law and ensure compliance with local legislation and Group policies.
  • Oversee day-to-day HR administration and operational HR processes, including payroll coordination.
  • Supervise and support one HR Coordinator.

Support to Retail Management

  • Provide day-to-day HR support to Store Managers and operational leaders.
  • Act as a trusted HR partner, advising and coaching managers on people-related matters and leadership practices.
  • Support managers in developing their HR and leadership capabilities.
  • Contribute to improving employee engagement, retention and overall employee experience.
  • Maintain a strong presence across the retail network and build close relationships with managers and teams.

Talent Development & HR Processes

  • Support the implementation of performance reviews, people reviews and bonus processes in line with Group guidelines.
  • Identify skills gaps and contribute to training, talent development and succession initiatives.
  • Support managers in developing and retaining key talent.
  • Contribute to the evolution of compensation and benefits practices in line with Group principles and local market requirements.

HR Structuring & Transformation

  • Work closely with the Group HR team in Paris to develop and strengthen local HR processes and practices.
  • Help structure HR frameworks and tools where processes are currently under development.
  • Contribute to HR transformation projects, including the future implementation of an HR Information System (HRIS).
  • Support organisational change and evolving ways of working within a long-established family-owned business.
  • Contribute to building pragmatic, consistent and sustainable HR practices.

PROFILE

You hold a CIPD qualification and have proven experience in an HR Business Partner / HR Manager role, ideally within a luxury, premium retail, fashion or other multi-site environment.

You will ideally have:

  • Proven experience within the UK subsidiary of an international group, with regular interaction with a corporate or Group headquarters.
  • Strong knowledge of UK employment law and employee relations.
  • Experience in a hands-on, operational HR role combining HR administration, employee relations and business partnering.
  • The ability to structure and develop HR processes in an environment where practices need to be created or strengthened.
  • Strong organisational skills, autonomy and a pragmatic, solutions-oriented approach.
  • Excellent interpersonal and influencing skills, with the confidence to challenge and advise operational leaders while maintaining constructive and trusted relationships.
  • Strong project management skills and the ability to drive HR initiatives through to implementation.
  • A genuine appetite for working closely with the business and spending regular time in the field.
  • Fluent English is essential.
