Introduction to the Department

The People Services function plays a vital role in supporting West Midlands Police to deliver its People Strategy, ensuring officers and staff are supported to perform effectively and provide the best possible service to our communities. Working in partnership with managers and colleagues across the Force, the team provides professional HR advice, guidance and support across the employee lifecycle, promoting effective people management, organisational compliance and a positive workplace culture.

About the Role

As a HR Officer, you will provide a customer-focused HR service, delivering generalist HR advice, administrative support and comprehensive case management across your allocated portfolio. Working closely with HR Advisors and line managers, you will support a range of people-related matters, including attendance management, employee relations, onboarding and workforce data. You will also contribute to reporting, policy compliance and the continuous improvement of HR processes, helping ensure that people decisions are informed, consistent and aligned with Force policies and procedures.

Key Responsibilities

  • Act as a first point of contact for HR enquiries, providing advice and supporting managers, officers and staff, identifying potential risks and escalating complex matters where necessary.
  • Support line managers with attendance and capability matters, including formal and informal meetings, case reviews and sickness management, helping build their confidence and capability in managing people effectively.
  • Maintain accurate and timely employee records across Force systems, coordinate onboarding for new officers and staff, and ensure people data and administrative processes are completed efficiently.
  • Collate and analyse HR data, performance indicators and management information, identifying emerging trends to inform decision-making and support proactive HR service delivery.
  • Ensure HR systems and procedures comply with Force policies, employment legislation and GDPR, while supporting audit and inspection activities and the administration of disciplinary, grievance and flexible working hearings and appeals.

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
