About The Role

The HR Officer position at Royal Surrey NHS Foundation Trust offers a dynamic opportunity to contribute to the Trust’s recruitment and workforce planning efforts. This role is part of the Recruitment Team, focusing on managing end-to-end recruitment processes to ensure timely and compliant staffing across various services. The role is initially contracted for six months through the Flexi-Bank staffing service, providing flexible working hours aligned with service needs, typically Monday to Friday from 9 am to 5 pm, with a total of 37.5 hours per week. The successful candidate will work closely with hiring managers, HR colleagues, and administrative teams to facilitate efficient recruitment operations, ensuring adherence to NHS policies, legal standards, and organizational KPIs. This position offers an excellent platform for individuals passionate about HR and recruitment to develop their skills within the NHS framework, supporting the Trust’s mission to deliver outstanding healthcare services to the community.

Qualifications

Applicants should possess at least an A Level qualification or equivalent. Alternatively, candidates with a CIPD Level 3 qualification and one year of experience in an HR environment, or three years of relevant HR experience, will be considered. Proven experience in HR administration or recruitment roles is essential, particularly familiarity with electronic filing systems, document formatting, and handling confidential information. Knowledge of NHS-specific systems such as ESR (Electronic Staff Record) and TRAC (Training and Development System) is highly desirable. Strong proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint, is required to produce accurate reports and manage administrative tasks effectively. Candidates should demonstrate excellent organizational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work independently while maintaining high-quality standards.

Responsibilities

  • Managing the full recruitment lifecycle, starting from liaising with managers to understand staffing needs, advertising vacancies, and processing applications
  • Ensuring all recruitment documentation aligns with Trust branding and complies with legal and policy standards
  • Validating interview panel scores, ensuring fairness and equity, especially for applicants with protected characteristics
  • Supporting recruitment administrators in conducting thorough pre-employment checks in line with NHS policies
  • Scrutinizing application information for accuracy and completeness, seeking additional verification when necessary
  • Timely processing of all recruitment-related data within the Electronic Staff Record (ESR) system and meeting internal deadlines to ensure staff are paid correctly and on time
  • Contributing to continuous improvement initiatives by identifying and challenging inefficient practices, supporting a positive and compliant recruitment environment
  • Maintaining accurate records, preparing reports, and contributing to the overall effectiveness of the recruitment service
