About The Role
Would you like to play a key role in supporting the University as part of our 'Ask HR' team, providing advice and guidance on a variety of HR topics?
If you are a confident and self-motivated individual who would like to join a responsive and effective HR team, we would like to hear from you.
You will be able to demonstrate exceptional communication skills both written and verbal, with a good eye for detail. You will need to be proactive with a flexible approach and have the ability to work with changing priorities during periods of pressured workload. Naturally, you will be able to build and maintain relationships with a variety of people across the University.
The role is varied, as you will be the first line of contact for both internal and external customers contacting HR. We offer telephone, email and in-person support to customers using a range of IT systems (such as the central HR database and a ticketing system).
The expected hours of work for this part time (0.8FTE, 28.8 hours per week) role are 9am - 5pm. The work pattern (days to be worked) would be discussed during interviews and agreed upon offer.
The typical starting salary for this role will be £27,319.00 pro rata (spinal point 17 on the University Level 1-6 pay scale), unless you have significant experience in a similar role. Staff increment one spinal point each year, up to the top of the Level.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
