Human Resources Officer
Location: Blackwell, Derbyshire (J28, M1) – This role is full time office based.
Hours: Monday to Friday 09:00hrs – 17:30hrs
Salary: Competitive and based on experience.

The Martin Group of Companies (est. 1976) provide specialist services to the construction and waste recycling industries.
We have a dedicated, trained and certificated workforce of over 1,600 delivering works and support services from design, through to build and onward maintenance.
With a turnover of more than £300m and a fleet of over 500 vehicles, we are a major contributor in our fields of expertise with over 40 years experience of successfully delivering to our client’s needs.
The Opportunity:
The HR Officer will provide a professional, proactive and efficient HR support service across the Group, with particular responsibility for recruitment coordination, onboarding, employee relations administration, Occupational Health coordination, GDPR administration, probation management and HR compliance activities.
Recruitment & Talent Attraction
- Coordinate recruitment activity across all Group businesses.
- Prepare and place vacancy advertisements.
- Manage candidate applications and recruitment responses.
- Arrange interviews and assessment activities.
- Liaise with hiring managers throughout recruitment campaigns.
- Coordinate recruitment agencies where required.
- Support apprenticeship, trainee and early careers initiatives.
- Assist with school, college and careers engagement activities.
- Support workforce planning and talent attraction projects.
- Maintain recruitment records and management information
Employment Contracts and Onboarding
- Prepare and issue employment contracts.
- Prepare and issue onboarding documentation and recruitment packs.
- Manage DocuSign contract administration.
- Coordinate pre-employment checks.
- Monitor completion of onboarding documentation.
- Liaise with managers regarding outstanding paperwork.
- Support induction and onboarding processes.
- Coordinate onboarding activities for salaried and hourly paid employees.
- Work closely with payroll to ensure all starter documentation is received and processed correctly.

Employee Relations Administration
- Prepare disciplinary, grievance, capability and appeal invitations.
- Compile hearing packs and supporting documentation.
- Prepare outcome letters and correspondence.
- Maintain employee relations case records.
- Support investigations through administration and document management.
- Coordinate meeting arrangements and documentation.
- Assist with note-taking where required.
- Ensure appropriate document retention and confidentiality.
Occupational Health and Absence Management
- Coordinate Occupational Health referrals.
- Track Occupational Health reports and recommendations.
- Monitor long-term absence reviews.
- Support return-to-work processes.
- Assist with capability and attendance management administration.
- Maintain absence and Occupational Health records.
- Support welfare and wellbeing initiatives.
Probation Management
- Coordinate the Group’s probation review process.
- Monitor completion of probation reviews at months 1, 3 and 5.
- Issue reminders to managers regarding review deadlines.
- Maintain probation documentation.
- Escalate concerns where reviews are not completed.
- Support managers with probation administration requirements.
- Assist in ensuring compliance with the Group’s probation framework.
- Monitor completion of probation reviews and escalate overdue reviews to HR management.
GDPR and Subject Access Requests
- Support Subject Access Request administration.
- Coordinate information gathering exercises.
- Maintain GDPR records and documentation.
- Liaise with the Group’s external Data Protection Officer when required.
- Assist with data protection compliance activities.
- Support responses to information requests and investigations.
HR Administration and Compliance
- Maintain employee records and HR systems.
- Ensure HR documentation remains accurate and up to date.
- Support policy implementation and compliance activities.
- Assist with Employment Rights Act 2025 implementation projects.
- Support training administration and workshop coordination.
- Assist with HR reporting and management information.
- Support internal and external audits.
- Assist with right-to-work compliance activities.

EDUCATION
Essential:
- Full UK Driving Licence. (Occasional travel required)
- GCSE (or equivalent) in English and Mathematics.
Desirable:
- CIPD Level 3 or Level 5 qualification.
- Degree or equivalent qualification in Human Resources, Business or related discipline.
Experience
Essential:
- Experience working within an HR environment.
- Experience of recruitment administration.
- Experience of onboarding and employee documentation.
- Experience maintaining confidential records.
- Experience using Microsoft Office applications.
Desirable:
- Experience supporting employee relations processes.
- Experience coordinating Occupational Health referrals.
- Experience supporting GDPR or Subject Access Requests.
- Experience using HR information systems.
- Experience working within a multi-site organisation.
