About The Role

We are currently seeking an experienced HR and Payroll Transactions Officer to join our busy and fast-paced Personnel Services team within a local authority. This part-time position offers an excellent opportunity for professionals with a strong background in HR and payroll administration to contribute to a vital function within the organization. In this role, you will be responsible for managing a high volume of HR and payroll transactions, ensuring accuracy and compliance across the entire employee lifecycle. Your expertise will support the organization’s commitment to delivering efficient and reliable HR and payroll services to employees, schools, and external clients. The successful candidate will thrive in a deadline-driven environment, demonstrating attention to detail, excellent organizational skills, and a customer-focused approach.

Qualifications

The ideal candidate will possess significant experience in HR and payroll administration, with a thorough understanding of processes, policies, and employment terms. You should have a proven track record of working with complex HR and payroll systems and be comfortable handling detailed calculations with strong numeracy skills. Relevant qualifications such as NVQ Level 3, A-Level, or equivalent experience are essential. Advanced IT skills, particularly in Excel, Word, Outlook, and PowerPoint, are required to produce reports, documents, and manage data effectively. Additionally, candidates should demonstrate excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, and possess the ability to organize and prioritize tasks efficiently. Previous experience supporting pension administration, statutory deductions, and employee-related transactions will be advantageous.

Responsibilities

  • Processing starters, leavers, and contractual changes to ensure accurate employee records.
  • Managing overtime, casual hours, mileage claims, and expenses with precision.
  • Handling employee-related transactions such as maternity, paternity, and other leave types.
  • Processing tax notifications, student loans, and statutory deductions in compliance with legal requirements.
  • Calculating redundancy payments accurately and efficiently.
  • Supporting pension administration, including LGPS and Teachers' Pension schemes, ensuring compliance with regulations.
  • Managing auto-enrolment and pension re-enrolment processes.
  • Producing employment contracts, variation letters, and other HR documentation.
  • Maintaining up-to-date and accurate employee records within the HR and Payroll systems.
  • Providing advice and guidance on terms and conditions, policies, and procedures to staff and stakeholders.
  • Monitoring sickness absence and supporting HR colleagues with related administrative tasks.
  • Generating reports to support decision-making and continuous improvement initiatives within HR and payroll functions.
