About The Role

We are currently seeking an experienced HR and Payroll Transactions Officer to join our dynamic Personnel Services team within a reputable local authority. This part-time position offers an excellent opportunity for professionals who excel in high-volume HR and payroll administration, ensuring accuracy and efficiency in every transaction. The successful candidate will play a vital role in managing the full employee lifecycle, supporting internal staff, schools, and external clients with a comprehensive range of HR and payroll services. This role requires a detail-oriented individual who can handle complex processes, maintain confidentiality, and deliver exceptional service in a fast-paced environment.

Qualifications

The ideal candidate will possess significant experience in HR and payroll administration, complemented by relevant qualifications or equivalent experience. A strong understanding of HR and payroll processes, policies, and terms of employment is essential. Proficiency in using complex integrated HR and payroll systems is required, along with advanced IT skills, including Excel, Word, Outlook, and PowerPoint. Candidates should hold an NVQ Level 3, A-Level qualification, or demonstrate equivalent practical experience. Strong numeracy skills and confidence in performing detailed calculations are necessary to ensure accurate processing of payroll transactions. Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, along with strong organizational and problem-solving abilities, are critical for success in this role.

Responsibilities

The HR and Payroll Transactions Officer will be responsible for a wide range of duties to support the employee lifecycle and payroll processes. Key responsibilities include:

  • Processing starters, leavers, and contractual changes
  • Ensuring all employee data is accurately maintained within the HR and payroll system
  • Managing overtime, casual hours, mileage, expenses, and employee-related transactions such as maternity, paternity, and other leave types
  • Handling tax notifications, student loans, statutory deductions, and redundancy payments, ensuring compliance with relevant regulations
  • Supporting pension administration, including LGPS and Teachers' Pension schemes, along with processing auto-enrolment and re-enrolment activities
  • Producing accurate employment contracts and documentation
  • Monitoring sickness absence
  • Supporting HR colleagues with related administrative tasks
  • Producing reports
  • Supporting process improvements
  • Providing guidance on terms, conditions, policies, and procedures to staff and stakeholders
