About The Role

We are currently seeking an experienced HR and Payroll Transactions Officer to join our dynamic Personnel Services team within a local authority. This part-time position offers an excellent opportunity for a detail-oriented professional with a strong background in HR and payroll administration to contribute to a high-volume, fast-paced environment. The successful candidate will play a vital role in delivering accurate and efficient HR and payroll transactional services across the full employee lifecycle, supporting employees, schools, and external stakeholders. This role requires a proactive individual with excellent organizational skills, a thorough understanding of HR and payroll processes, and the ability to handle complex transactions with precision and confidentiality.

Qualifications

The ideal candidate will possess significant experience in HR and payroll administration, demonstrating a comprehensive understanding of relevant policies, procedures, and employment terms. A strong educational background, such as an NVQ Level 3, A-Level qualification, or equivalent experience, is essential. Proficiency in using complex integrated HR and payroll systems is required, along with advanced IT skills, including Excel, Word, Outlook, and PowerPoint. Candidates should have strong numeracy skills, confidence in performing detailed calculations, and excellent organizational abilities to manage multiple priorities within strict deadlines. Effective communication skills, both written and verbal, are vital for providing clear guidance and building positive relationships with colleagues and stakeholders. A customer-focused approach and the ability to remain calm and accurate in demanding situations will contribute to success in this role.

Responsibilities

  • Processing starters, leavers, and contractual changes to ensure accurate employee records
  • Managing payroll transactions such as overtime, casual hours, mileage, and expenses
  • Handling employee-related transactions including maternity, paternity, and other leave types
  • Processing tax notifications, student loans, and statutory deductions to ensure compliance
  • Calculating redundancy payments accurately and efficiently
  • Supporting pension administration, including LGPS and Teachers' Pension schemes
  • Managing auto-enrollment and pension re-enrollment processes
  • Producing and maintaining accurate employment contracts and related documentation
  • Maintaining comprehensive employee records within the HR and payroll systems
  • Providing expert advice and guidance on terms and conditions, policies, and procedures
  • Monitoring sickness absence and supporting HR colleagues with related administrative tasks
  • Producing reports and contributing to the continuous improvement of HR and payroll processes
