I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

The Role
Working as part of the wider HR team, you will have responsibility for ensuring key people processes, systems and data are managed accurately and efficiently.
While the position has a strong HR administration element, it is not simply a traditional HR administration role. You will be expected to understand the data behind HR processes and reporting, identify opportunities for improvement and help the business get greater value from its HR systems and data.
Key Responsibilities Will Include
- Managing employee starters, leavers and changes throughout the employee lifecycle
- Producing contracts, letters and other HR documentation
- Maintaining accurate and up-to-date employee information within the HRIS (Workday)
- Supporting HR administration across multiple UK locations
- Responding to day-to-day HR administration queries
- Producing regular HR reports and Management Information
- Extracting, analysing and presenting people data
- Identifying trends, inconsistencies and opportunities through HR data
- Supporting improvements in data accuracy and reporting
- Identifying opportunities to simplify, automate and improve processes
- Supporting greater standardisation and consistency across HR operations
- Challenging inefficient or overly manual ways of working
- Supporting the wider HR team with systems, data and operational projects
A key part of the position will be helping the organisation make better use of its HR systems and people data, rather than simply maintaining information within the system.

Your very own career expert that helps elevate your application to the next level.
We are looking for someone who combines strong HR administration, systems confidence, analytical ability and excellent attention to detail.
You may already be working within HR administration, People Operations, HR systems, HRIS, payroll, people analytics or a similar data-focused environment.
You Are Likely To Have
- Strong attention to detail and a high level of data accuracy
- Good Excel and data-handling skills
- Experience using HR systems or HRIS platforms
- Experience producing reports or Management Information
- The ability to analyse and interpret data
- A naturally inquisitive approach and an interest in understanding how things work
- Strong organisational and prioritisation skills
- The ability to learn new systems and processes quickly
- A proactive approach to identifying and solving problems
- The confidence to work with multiple stakeholders across different locations
- An interest in process improvement, automation and technology
Workday experience would be advantageous but is not essential. Experience using another HRIS or enterprise system would be equally relevant, provided you are confident working with data and systems.
This role would particularly suit someone who enjoys working with people data, understanding systems and processes, questioning whether things can be done more effectively and using technology to improve the way HR operates.
If this role aligns with your experience and next step and you are able to commit to an onsite role, we very much look forward to reviewing your application.
